In the novel "Copper Sun" , written by Sharon Draper. The author describes the struggles of being a slave in America through the experience of a young girl who has fifteen years old, named Amari and plays an important play in this novel as been the protagonist. In the introduction of the novel it takes place in Amaris's hometown Ziavi which is an African village, then Amari is taken as a slavery to South Carolina which experiences violence and a lot of suffering . In the end of the novel trying to achieve freedom she make it to Fort Mose, Florida.

In this novel characters are categorized as Mr. Derby who is the owner of a farm of slaves and is known as a cruel person to his Slaves except his wife called Isabelle she is the opposite of his husband, she is a very kind person to their slaves, which have a son called Clay Derby who is like his father cruel to others. …show more content…

More characteristics that defines Amari is that she is a young girl of fifteen years, she endures the horrors of slavery she experience and the love she had to her family. Throughout the novel people who makes possible the escape of Amari in chronological events where Afi that was an slave who motivated Amari to stay alive in their journey to America, in that journey she also meets a white person named Bill ( a ship worker) who teaches Amari's English. As well as Dr. Haskins ( a doctor ), who plays an important role in the escape because he doesn't believe in slavery. Nate ( a kid ) that collaborate during the escape by helping with giving food. Fiona an slave owner however she treats the right to slave. Domingo Salvador is an Spanish soldier that helps to get to Fort Mose during the escape in continuation with Inez the person who welcomes them to Fort Mose and tells Amari's she is having a baby, throughout the novel she became very close with Amari as a mother and
