Macbeth is a dark tale of paranoia and confusion set in Scotland in the age of Enlightenment. Macbeth a tragedy play, by Shakespeare, ambition and pride shows his positives and negatives of ambition slowly proving his downfall to the reader until his death. Taking place in Scotland where Macbeth would eventually become king for sometime. Macbeth was told by the Witches that he was soon to be king, interested by this prophecy Macbeth wanted to know more. The way the reader was told is that he would have to take the spot from Duncan and the only way he could do that was from murdering the king which started the downfall of Macbeth. Duncan king of Scotland best represents the theme of Act I , because he was the main character, of what was about to happen to him. Lots of dramatic irony fell into this act from how the reader knew what would happen but Duncan had no clue. Macbeth had been planning to kill Duncan “you murder ministers whatever in your sight less substances''(I,V,56) Lady Macbeth starts planning how they were going to kill the king with lady Macbeth getting the guards drunk to be able to kill the guards and the king with no consequence.
