(Audrey Hepburn) When the Constitution was written, many people were unequal, but over time, Twenty-Seven alterations (amendments) to the Constitution were made, fixing most problems with equality. In the amendment activity, I learned that the First Amendment gives individuals equality by allowing them to have their own opinions and not be treated unlike a person with different opinions. Although many people have achieved equality through the amendments of the Constitution, some people think that the Constitution does not solve all problems with equality. Football is a sport dominated completely by men, and some argue that, although women have the ability to try out for the National Football League, they “know” that a coach would choose a male over a female. First of all, the Constitution cannot make a law that chooses players for the NFL, but coaches should test both a man and woman the same. A new football league, for women, could be established, but that could, and would be viewed as inequality because men and women would be separated. However, there are some inequalities that the Constitution can fix by adding more amendments. For example, it is no secret that men make more than women, and Congress can pass a law and add an amendment stating that companies must pay men and women the same, if they are in the same position. If people have hope and take action instead of sitting around and being grouchy, it is very likely and very possible that a law like this will get passed.
