The border between the United States and Mexico is nearly 2,000 miles long. Over the past few years, the United States had form a policy called Secure Fence Act to prevent drug sellers and terrorists out of America (Clifford). The act constructed fences to cover about one third of the border between Mexico and America along California, New Mexico, Texas and so on. Unfortunately, there were less environmental considerations when making the policy. The Los Angeles Times reported that in additional to build the fences, the United States government has been eluded over thirty environmental and cultural laws (Campbell).

Our country has had quite a few Presidents in its day and with that come the good and the bad. Now, not all Presidents are either purely good or bad. There are some that mostly bad with a bit of good while others can be mostly good with a hint of bad. Now, no man is perfect by any means but there are a few Presidents that have done fantastic while in office and that have been a purely beneficial factor for our country.

With the current election raging, illegal immigration has been the hot topic amongst both liberals and conservatives. Many conservatives believe that illegals steal jobs, abuse tax benefits, and, most importantly, threaten their way of life. Liberals, on the other hand, support immigration reform based purely on sympathy. They understand that many Latin Americans go through extreme measures to escape hopeless situations back home. While there’s nothing wrong with sympathy for our fellow humans, it may serve to be beneficial to look at immigration reform through the lens of reason.
One of America’s most controversial issues today is the border between the United States and Mexico. The big part of the issue is due to illegal immigration, which is when foreigners enter the U.S. without an entry or an immigrant visa. President Trump says he has found a solution, otherwise known as the “border wall,” but this will not stop people from wanting a better life. Of course I get why he and others would want to continue the process obviously to keep us safe from terrorists and other dangers of the world, but, to every pro there is a con. Even though the fence along the U.S./Mexico border is already being built, it should not continue being built because it is expensive, hurts the environment, and immigration rates have significantly dropped.
According to a study released last year by the Pew Hispanic Center, as of 2008, 11.9 million illegal immigrants lived in the United States, more than triple the 3.5 million who lived in the country in 1990 (Izumi). Immigration throughout the years has become a major issue in the U.S because of too many immigrants entering the country year after year. The U.S has come to a point whether they should deport the immigrants back to their country. Believe it or not, these immigrants are a big contribution to the U.S. If it wasn’t for them, the U.S economy wouldn’t be where it stands now.
Illegitimate immigration is becoming one of the largest problems in today’s America, many believe that a border wall with Mexico would help this problem. In about 3 years ago it occurred that there were about 11.1 million illegal immigrants in America. Of those 84% of them came from Central America, Mexico, and Asia, the largest amount coming from Mexico with 59% of all illegal immigrants. Constructing a border wall to keep out illegal immigrants won't just cost billions of dollars, it would create a less diverse community, make America’s economy weak, and it would hurt the environment. The U.S. would lose billions of dollars in taxes if they were to be deported. Not only do they pay their taxes, but they also help raise GDP.(“10 Critical Pros And Cons Of Illegal Immigration” ). The number of immigrants that do not pay their taxes is too limited for it to be considered a burden to our economy.
Those who live among poverty and violence look to America and see a wonderful country filled with opportunity. However, in recent months, America has become a laughingstock, a joke. Donald Trump, as well as many conservative Republicans would like to would like to build a wall separating America from Mexico, limit a woman’s choices, and deny current citizens basic psychological and physical assistance. We should work towards building human connections, not walls. Our future president will have the power to implement an immigration policy and make decisions that will effect the immigrants who currently reside within our borders.
The United States of America, being a country founded by immigrants, is known all over the world as the land of great opportunities. People from all walks of life travelled across the globe, taking a chance to find a better life for them and their family. Over the years, the population of immigrants has grown immensely, resulting in the currently controversial issue of illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants are the people who have overstayed the time granted on their US, visa or those who have broken the federal law by crossing the border illegally. Matt O’Brien stated in his article “The government thinks that 10.8 million illegal immigrants lived in the country in January 2009, down from a peak of nearly 12 million in 2007.”(Para, 2) While some argue that illegal immigrants burden the United States of America and its economy, others believe that they have become essential and are an important part of the US, economy.
