The story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie are traveling together trying to find work. At the beginning of the book George and Lennie are talking about their American Dream. When George is telling Lennie about the dream, Lennie recites part of the dream as if he’s heard it thousands of times over. “George went on. “With us it ain’t like that. We got a future. George doesn’t want Lennie to mess this up for them. The next day they head up to the ranch and they meet Candy, who will later become part of George and Lennie’s American Dream. After George and Lennie’s first day of work, George starts talking to Slim. While they are talking, George explains everything that happened in Weed. Steinbeck wants to show that George trusts Slim and he knows that Slim will understand if he has to do something that may not seem right to anyone else. While George and Slim are talking, everyone starts to enter the bunkhouse. Carlson smells the air and gets angry at Candy because his dog is in the bunkhouse. Candy’s dog is old and sick, and smells as if he’s rotting. Carlson tells Candy that Slim has some pups from his dog, and Candy could probably have one of those. Carlson wants to euthanize Candy’s dog because he kinda feels bad that is suffering, being so old the dog is probably blind and is in a lot of pain. Lennie is playing with them and it goes to bite him and he freaks out and accidentally kills the dog. When Lennie is freaking out and trying to hide his pup Curley's Wife comes in to talk to Lennie. Lennie freezes and tells her that she isn’t supposed to be talking to her or else George would give him hell. She slowly gains his trust and they sit down and start talking about Curley and her backstory. Lennie tells her about Weed and how he likes petting soft stuff. Curley’s wife shows Lennie how soft her hair is and he starts petting it. He starts to get vicious and Curley’s wife starts getting scared and starts struggling to get away.
