Who would not want wealth, success, and a prosperous future? Interview The 1990s to now has had a great deal of change. Everyday the American Dream changes. With new technologies at every corner, we literally have the whole world at our fingertips. It is crazy to think about. A prosperous future for all would be to have lots of money and to live their life the way they want to. It is also to live a life of consumerism. This means that they buy and buy and buy even though they don’t need most of what they are buying. My interviewee says, “A long time ago the American Dream was quote ‘to have two cars and a television set.’ . . . Now the American Dream is, I don’t know, get a college education, to own a house, to, you know, live your best life, to buy whatever you want to buy and get it in five seconds, to be on your phone all the time . . . there is no more dream. The government wants to steal everything you have, so there is no dream. There is no more dream. There is only disappointment.” Based on what my interviewee said and what I have read about the American Dream, I agree with what my interviewee said more than what I have read about the American Dream. This is because, first, my interviewee is way older than me. Second, my interviewee was my mom, so I trust her word way more than I trust the internet’s word.
