Male and Female Roles in British and American Societies
Male and female roles have been changing with time over the years. Woman have fought to have the same rights as men, and many men have even fought to have the same rights as women. More common cases of women wanting equality, for instance, how women wanted the right the vote and work in the same workforces as men. Although men throughout the years have always believed, women should stay home and take care of the house and children, while they went out and did all the work women should never have to do. Woman have always been in the fight to have gender equality. Men have said that they are superior to women, but women have always thought that both genders were equal and deserve to be treated as such. Male and female gender roles have changed with time, adding to history.
Gender roles are patterns that pertain to a certain sex, in specific cultures (Issit, 1). Today, gender roles change constantly due to both men and women facing everyday tasks, which challenges their feminism and masculinity (Issit, 1). Even though gender roles are always changing, women and men are not equal (Issit, 1). These gender roles are not always the case in all marriages (Nueman). Men are more likely to be seen maintaining the physical functioning of the home (Nueman). Because of this responsibility, men are seen as the head of the household (Nueman). Many women get the choice to stay home and maintain the daily operations (Nueman). In some cases women have to maintain daily operations in the home, and go to work being employed full time (Nueman). Even through all of the work they do, women are still seen as passive and followers of their husbands leadership
