The Haitian revolution is the biggest slave rebellion known. These events were both very significant for different reasons but also had similar failures. This paper will discuss what the French revolution entails, what the Haitian revolution entails, and what was similar and different about the two revolutions. To start off, the French revolution, in 1789, was caused by the increase in prices by King Louis XVI so that he would have more money. Finally, compare the two revolutions. Some similarities between the two revolutions are that they both at one point ended up in the hands of Napoleon, both rebellions within the revolution ended in deaths of many people, and that both revolutions were fighting for a difference in social classes and equality. Some differences within these revolutions is that the Haitian revolution did end up achieving its goals and the slaves were free in the new Haiti, the French revolution did achieve some of its goals but also Napoleon went against the basic laws of the French and made the people have to abide by his rule and new laws, and that leaders who helped in the revolution had two completely different ideas within both revolutions. In conclusion, the French Revolution and the Haitian Revolution were both historically important events that have shaped us today. The French revolution was important because Napoleon did get the tax prices for the people to go down, got rid of social classes, and thought he was a better ruler.
