Coming home from war can be a significant and powerful time for veterans of war and their families because they can reconnect with their loved ones; adapting back can be challenging; routines and people (including the soldiers themselves) have changed so much. Soldiers coming back from war often have not seen their families in person for a long extent of time because they were fighting overseas or working for the military. When S soldiers finally see their families again there are intense and weighty reconnections along with many feeling and emotions. His love and excitement are the priority in his heart, strong enough to make his other emotions of pain and resentment because she left feel unimportant. While coming home could be a joyous occasion, there can also be a lot of hardships involved. Soldiers change when they are away at war and their families change as well. It is not the same when these soldiers come back and it can be hard to adjust. A spouse of a military soldier says shared that, “(Y)ou get used to being alone (Post),” when they are away at war and “(A)s much as you want them back, something in you has a tough time when the routine changes (Post).” The wife’s comments portray how when a soldier comes back from a war it can be hard to reconnect with their loved ones because they have been gone for so long that their families have gotten used to being without them.
