In an article by Yi -Fu Tuan, “American Space, Chinese Place” discussed about the comparison of what the Americans and the Chinese admire. The Americans are tend to have a lifestyle which looks toward the future. While, the Chinese have a daily life that focused on their stability of life. Tuan is concentrating in the use of space and place of both nations. He expresses the difference of each circumstances affecting the display and the outcome of their places. His comparison described the reasons of different daily lifestyles applied in America and China which are the using of space that considers the structure of their homes, the effects of neighborhood, and the desires in their life.

The distant view in his explanation of the Chinese house is comparing the parts of the house, while in his explanation of the American house is comparing the admiration of the host and the display of the house. However, the neighborhood also take place in the use of space of each nation. Tuan’s description on the different effects from their neighborhood are more likely true. The tradition affects their purposes of life.Chinese has more tradition that they are applying in their daily basis compared to the American. In contrast, Americans are seeking the possibility of the future as the are living their daily activities. Moreover, these effects lead them to their own different desires. The Chinese and Americans have different manners that is based on what they desire. In addition, their history plays a big role in forming their mindset. The Chinese’s rootedness began from their engaging environment which tied to the land of their own and stayed for not seeking others.
