The American troops and the Mexican Armies were proud and fearless Soldiers at the battle of Palo Alto in the beginning, which their morale on both sides was high. Both parties had plans that were unique and each commander knew how they wanted to deploy their tactics against one another but neither side at first wanted to initiate the first punch. The Mexicans were better prepared in the ratio of number of Soldiers and was use to fighting large battles compared to the American Soldiers. Eventually General Mariano Arista, the commander of the Mexican Army of the north decided to strike first. Without taking into consideration the conditions that, the Americans had advanced weaponry that allowed the Americans to reach targets more quickly and accurately. That but the artillerymen not only was skilled-trained professionals, discipline, and motivated Soldiers. The morale of the American Soldiers grew stronger and stronger knowing they were outnumbered approximately five to one to every man. Both sides command and control were at para Taylor and Arista were the overall commanders. Communication played a fascinating role in the battle. The lines of communication help kept the Americans Soldiers fed and with re-supplies throughout the battle. The Mexican supply system was not that dependable and their Soldiers suffered. In addition, the Mexican Soldiers were scattered all over the territory making communications very difficult. The American was close quarters not that complex for the Americans forces to disseminate information or give orders. Communication did not really affect the overall operations but President James K. Polk commander in chief should have been aware of the current situation or sequence of events happening on the ground before Brigadier General Zachary Taylor gave the command to indulge into
