Brad Henry once said, “ A child’s life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark”. There are many many people who can leave a mark on America’s youth educationally. Students, parents, and educators are responsible for educating America’s youth.
Students are responsible for educating America’s youth. In the movie Lean On Me, there was a horrible school with drug dealers, gangs, and much more. The school board called in Mr.Clark to turn things around. In result, he kicked out all of the quote on quote bad kids. One of them was Thomas Sams a kid who just wanted a better life for himself but got caught in the drugs, fighting, and constantly jumping on the bandwagon. Eventually, Sams came back. Why? Because he wanted to succeed in life knew that he was the only one who was holding him back from succeeding. Students need to take it upon themselves to get a good education. In the movie Homeless to Harvard, Liz Murray has a rough life at home, living with her sister and two addicts, her parents. Liz never attended school not because she wasn’t smart, in fact, she was quite the opposite. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and Its Relation to Learning and Achievement states that children have basic necessities like food, water, shelter, clothing, and sleep ( Sarah E. Burleson). Without these basic needs, a child is unable to solely focus on their education while in school because they are worried about when their next meal is going to be so it is on them to provide for themselves when it should be on their parents. Parents need to have a stable environment for their children so that they can focus on their education. Most importantly it is the educators' responsibility to engage the students in their
