“If people could see me the way I see myself - if they could live in my memories - would anyone love me?” (Green 187). This quote describes not only this book An Abundance of Katherines by John Green, but the main character, Colin Singleton. Colin (aka a child prodigy) tries to get over Katherine-19. Throughout his life, he has only dated multiple girls, only with the exception of one name...Katherine. The great prodigy he calls himself, he tries to use *Vocab word for Hard* math to understand the concept of why every single time he dates a Katherine, he gets dumped in the matter of a year or less. One day he decides to explore with his friend Hassan Harbish. Throughout their journey they meet Lindsey and make adventures that may bring a …show more content…

Always being by Colin’s side, Hassan could be a little feisty and very lazy. Hassan does not appreciate people calling him lazy, he would consider himself more of a chill-back-kind-of-dude who does whatever, which explains why he is very different from Colin. The author knew that opposites attract. One song that would describe him perfectly is Lazy by Bruno Mars. One way to show that this song fits him well is when a bunch of Lindseys friends invite him and Colin to go out and Colin decides not to and argues to Hassan about always wanting to party and how he never does actual work to further his future. A better way to describe him is when colin says “"a not-doer" who is "good at not-doing things", which means he is a lazy bum. Without the friendship Hassan has with Colin, Colin would be a total nerd freak with no friends. Another reason is when he decided to take a year before starting college just because he would rather be out there in life, doing something to change and to find himself. He is not a dumb guy, but the author made him more of a rebel rather than a smarty like Colin. A line from the song to describe his personality is “Uh I'm gonna kick my feet up and stare at the …show more content…

For lindsay, a song that would describe her is Our Town by James Taylor. The main reason why one can see why this song fits her is because it is about how people, places and time change. As far as a reader can see, Colin who is obsessed with girls that have their first name called Katherine, changes throughout the book after he meets Lindsey. She changed his “theorem” on the perspective of “all” girls. He later knew that the theorem he tried to convinced himself that worked, only worked of the girls he dated, he didn’t actually know the different variations other girls (like Lindsey) could have. In the book, she says “I'm never myself......I'm nothing. The thing about chameleoning your way through life is that it gets to where nothing is real.”(Green 155). With this said, she is saying she fakes her through life, which everyone can relate to at some time in their life. The reader knows that Londsey changed the Colins life in multiple ways, but not everyone knows that Colin changed her in a positive way as well. She became more open about herself and her feelings. An event that happened to prove the previous statement, is when Lindsey decided to take Colin into her secret cave and tell him her most private secrets. Clearly Lindsey and Colin are meant for eachother and that is why one can see why the song Our Town by James Taylor describes the
