“Knowledge makes a man unfit to be a slave” is a recorded quote from none other than Frederick Douglass. Frederick Douglass, if truth be told, was a predominant piece that aided the abolitionist. A man who eradicated & assisted in ending the repulsive exploits of slavery. Nonetheless, he left us a vital part of himself. A narrative\biography of his time at the plantation along with being a runaway slave. In said narrative he spoke deeply about the horrors he faced as a black slave, unfolded & told numerous accounts of what he lived. He described being equal or being categorized as a farm animal, cleaving apart any humanity left in them in a sacrilege way, being treated with execration & imprudence. They weren’t people, they were property. Sparknotes.com aids my assertion by stating this; “Douglass elaborates on the idea of slave owners treating slaves as property through his depiction of the valuation of Captain Anthony's slaves. Douglass ironically describes how Captain Anthony's slaves are lined up alongside the livestock to be valued in the same manner.” One of the biggest treacheries enslavement was at fault for was if they did something wrong, they would be killed or beaten no matter how small the act. “If you don’t move faster I'll move you!” added to the cruel lashing to which these slaves subjected” The cruelty they were exposed to, the message was clear as day: They are easy to kill, if a slave owner killed one of its slaves, it wasn't frowned upon, or even a reprimandable deed, it was its property afterall, he can do whatever he pleases with it. The woman's job was to give the slave owner a new slave\kid every year, he would charge a certain amount of money to men who wished to sleep with the woman. In addition, that was her only purpose, she had no say or judgment over this. The way they could simply use a human being as if it was a …show more content…
Slavery was beneficial to whites alone. President Johnson freely alleged that free black men will harm poor whites out of jobs. As the slides of freedmen vs white men population demonstrates, freedmen equaled half or more of the white population after the civil war. After enslavement was demolished, there were a great deal of unbound slaves, meaning, there were gonna be plenty of people needing to make ends meet. For the million dollar question now, who in their righteous mind would want such vulgar and boorish behavior to continue? Well, it's less of the “who” but more of the “why” The answer is a tad bit simpler than what we thought, unalloyed greed. Greed is the reason why people kept slavery, the north had no issues, they just played off based on
