Prostitution is involving in sexual activities with someone for payment. The book I have chosen for my research is 11 Minutes by Paulo Coelho in which a Brazilian girl travels to Geneva in hopes of finding Love and adventure but ends up pursuing a career in prostitution. This is the story of not only the protagonist of the book I have chosen but of many other girls who helplessly end up in prostitution.

Prostitution has now become a wide spread activity all over the world. It is most of the times the sole way of survival for women because of which they are unwillingly dragged into this field. They are considered a bad part of the society and most often look down on. Not given the respect a human being rightfully deserves. Prostitutes are often considered to be emotionless and shameless where they have no culture and manners. The life of a prostitute is nearly nonexistent. They hardly have any social connect. These people are most often judged on the basis of their career. Whereas you may come across some women in this field who have a well balanced life. They have a pretty happening social life which they keep balanced parallel with their not so great career. There are even a few who do not take this career as a set back and look to enjoy life as much as they can and there are even some who are eager to pursue a better career and leave their dreaded past behind. Even Maria’s main motive behind entering this career was to earn enough money to return back to her home and get back that life she once had. At the end everything ends up on money, money is the main reason behind all this after all. Money is the reason why they had to get into this field but there are some who do it for pleasure as well. The thing that people should understand is that they too are humans after all and there is some reason because of which they had to take up prostitution as a career. Some might have families to take care of; some might have utter need of money, whereas some might have been forced to do so. It isn’t always as it seems to you; there may be a hundred reasons behind them doing this.
