Modern Day Prostitution
Prostitution is a common form of modern day slavery. Sumerian records shown proof with involvement of male and female in temple service of prostitution being dated back to 2400 B.C. (Lerner 54). Prostitution is an exchange of sex for money a practice that for the most part involves men buying sex from women, boys or girls. In August 2015, Amnesty International voted to support pimps and sex buyers rather than people in prostitution (Lener 98). There are 19 groups and organizations working on research, preventing, and offering services to help against prostitution. Prostitution is arguably the oldest profession in the world, but it shouldn’t continue any longer.

There are 69 countries in which prostitution is legal, the United States along with 9 other countries make the list of “somewhat” allowing it, much like we make the list of world’s largest meth producers (Lacino n.p). In Iceland the act of having sex for money is not illegal, but the act of paying for it is. Children prostitution is very common, Sir Lanka’s percentage of children prostitution rate has increased 6.4% in 2012. In 2004, 8,000 children under the age of 16 were involved in children prostitution in Thailand but, that’s better than Brazil who has half-a-million children as sex workers. According to Stephanie Chen, a Former Writer-Producer for CNN says, “The FBI’s 2007 Uniform Crime Report list about 78,000 arrest for prostitution and commercialized vice” (n.p.). Too many people are being pulled into modern day prostitution, a recent debate shows that 62% say that prostitution should be legalized in an effort to solve problem of illicit sex trafficking. “Illicit sex trafficking can be described as illegal trading, selling, or dealing in specific goods” (n.p.) said by Meredith Dank, a leader of a unique research effort by the Urban Institute.
