In chapter 3 of Speaking of Jesus, Carl Medearis talks about what it means to own Christianity. He says "If we don't truly know what the gospel is, we have to find an explanation for Christianity." Meaning that if we do not know what the gospel is or what it is teaching us, then we try to define it by our own standards, and that is where it gets messy. Medearis talks about how Christianity is more than a religion, but it is a relationship and people tend to not understand that. He explains why people are so defensive and put up their guards towards Christians, because Christians can be so judgemental.
A Good Man is Impossible to Find Ever since the creation of Adam and Eve, humans have been innately born with the ability to sin, making it impossible for any of their descendants to truly be good men. Due to this fact, there is only one truly good man in “Young Goodman Brown” and “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” and the man they refer to is God himself. However, the Misfit and Goodman Brown both have the wrong idea that they are Christ like figures and draw false comparisons between themselves and Jesus Christ. The authors use these two men to illustrate how quickly one forgets what it means to be “good”.
As a Christian facing trials and tribulations are a guarantee; the way we react makes us who we are. We will be tempted and persecuted and left with many decisions to be made. The world is always willing to battle our beliefs, so as Christians we should be able to defend our Lord and put up a fight. To be men and women of God; experienced and well equipped. In a similar sense during physical battle there are so many decisions that must be made, with little time to make them; the decisions you choose to make can define your character.
Through the journey home, the journey from pain, and quest for earthly material, these paths can either destroy or refine the the believer. As most Christians believe, the life of a Christian ultimately ends with Christ’s open arms. However, Christ did not guarantee an easy pilgrimage. In fact, he often reminded his disciples of the fact of pain and temptations.

By faith, this news must be heard and heeded. The Christian faith is neither knowledge nor science nor a “miraculous favor which allows one to… believe the impossible” (146). Faith is a form of communication from God, which is delivered by an apostle whose message, while transcendental and paradoxical, is believable and necessary. Basic Christianity is a crucial foundation that must be deeply entrenched within the hearts and minds of believers. The essential and basic principles aid every Christian by showing and teaching them how great God’s love is for us. In John Stott’s Book, “Basic Christianity,” he reveals insight on what it is to be a Christian. He also dispels many erroneous teachings that have been brought into the Christian community. Stott states in the beginning of his book that many have held the assumption that God sits on His throne, aloof, distant, and unconcerned for our needs and problems (Stott, pg. 17).
McDowell begins the book with an anecdote of his life; a familiar story of the sceptical university Agnostic, ready to fire back a retort at the slightest mention of God, Christianity, and anything (or anyone) within. He recounted the all too common feeling of a meaningless life, the seemingly innate itch of human existence, and how it brought him to various places in his life—until he stumbled upon a particular group of people and was changed forever. This introduction, though short, is crucial to understand, for it sets the stage for the remainder of the book. It tells not only the story of a former non-believer, but the story of everyone—it presents us the life of Jesus Christ, not as a gentle sermon or a feel-good retelling, but as an assertive, rational reply to the accusation: ‘Christianity is a myth, and so is your God.’
It was pretty simple growing up do this and do not do that, and to me life seemed so simple. Until. I had to grow up and started thinking on my own. As I began to experience people outside of my culture and outside of what I was used to I realized that maybe not everyone is christian after all, and that with the changing influences around me if I wanted to make Christianity a priority in my life I had to make something of my own.
Throughout Harper’s book and Kheiyn’s article, I found five main points that stood out to me in relating to helping me understand why bad things happen to good people. First, God did not create pain and suffering, man has through sin and defiance. Second, although suffering is not good, God uses it to achieve good. The third point tells us that the day will come where your misery will no longer exist and God will judge evil. The fourth states that our suffering does not even compare to what God has in store for his followers.
The existence of Christianity enumerates almost 20 centuries and for this period it made a long way in development and expansion.
