Why is it that stereotypes from the Jim Crow South are prevalent in cases happening in the 2000s? Dashka Slater has crafted a narrative surrounding the interwoven stories of Richard and Sasha–more specifically, the actions that surround the two of them. This story should’ve given proper context to both sides. It seems that we’ve only been given one side to Richard–a side that is filled with microaggressions, ignorance, and stereotypes. The portrayal of Richard in The 57 Bus perpetuates stereotypes, and is an example of a single story.
