In the book A Long Walk to Water, the main character Salva must overcome a lot of challenges in order for his survival. He is persistent, a hard worker, and just overall a very lucky young boy. These factors are very big reasons for his survival. After reading the book, readers can see that one of the main factors for Salvas survival is hard work.
Along walk to Water is a story based on the challenges of the two main characters, Nya and Salva. Nya an 11 year old girl living in 2008 and Salva an 11 year old boy living in 1985, Both raised in the country sudan. The story follows the two through a war as they face both physical and emotional challenges, though they both face problems not all of them are the same or different. Further into detail on comparing their challenges, we can think about the differences and similarities in their emotional challenges. Salva walks days and days on end,further and further away from where he grew up.
Make a Choice I strongly agree that the choices we make have the power to change our lives. This is backed up by the characters we explored in the books such as, Nya and Salva from A Long Walk to Water, Anne Frank from the Diary of Anne Frank, and Maya from My Favorite Chaperone. Furthermore, my personal experiences have also demonstrated the impact of choices on lives.
A very important theme in the book A Long Walk to Water is perseverance. The first example that perseverance is an important theme is how Nya walks back and forth to a faraway pond 2 times a day, every day, for seven months a year without stopping. Also, on the path, there are thorns everywhere that are painful to remove. Nya only gets a small bit of water and rest even though it is very hot and dry. Even the water that Nya gets with much pain and suffering is muddy and infected with Guinea Worms.
Have you ever gone through the desert with only a small gourd of water? Well, the Lost boys of Sudan went through South Sudan to get away from the war, and some other challenges. In the book a Walk to Water Salva and Nya have problems of getting water, but Salva is based on a real person who went through the challenges of losing his family and the brutal Sudanese war. These are some of the challenges he faced and how he solved them with what he had throughout his life. Through harsh challenges Salvas new foster family was always there for him to support and encourage him through tough times.
The most direct use of water establishes a parallel birth between Sethe and Beloved, connection that places Sethe in the role of her mother. When Beloved first appears at 124, she is said to have “walked out of water” and is “sopping wet” (60.) From the outset, Beloved is inextricably connected to water imagery. As soon as Sethe sees Beloved, she suddenly has an overwhelming desire to pee, and upon making it to an outhouse, “the water she voided was endless” (61). In this passage, there is a parallel between Beloved’s emergence from water and Sethe suddenly releasing large quantities of it, implying that Beloved has come directly from Sethe’s own water.

One character named Nya is a girl who walks 12 hours a day to get water for her family. While the other character Salva is a boy who is left in a country surrounded by war. In Salva’s story, his survival became possible through three main factors:his uncle, food and water; the memory of his family.
“One of the lessons learned during the Vietnam War was that the depiction of wounded soldiers, of coffins stacked higher than their living guards, had a negative effect on the viewing public. The military in Iraq specifically banned the photographing of wounded soldiers and coffins, thus sanitizing this terrible and bloody conflict.” Walter Dean Meyers vividly expresses the horror that the twenty yearlong Vietnam War had brought upon American soldiers and service people in Vietnam from 1955 to 1975. Through the Truman Doctrine, the Diem Regime, and the Domino Theory, the involvement of the United States in the War in Vietnam War was justifiable. What happened after the United States traveled to Asia, was not.
In the passage “The Pedestrian” by Ray Bradbury it appears to be a utopia when the text states, “There was a good crystal frost in the air…” (Bradbury pg 1). When the passage says, “...crime was ebbing…” (Bradbury pg 1) it shows an utopian place because there was little crime, but when the passage says, “... lone car turned a corner quite suddenly and flashed a fierce white cone of light upon him. ’’(Bradbury pg 1), it shows how the attempts to get control is making a dystopia.
In a novel or book, the setting can have a major effect on the character. It can also play a role in a major conflict of a story. In the book, "A Long Walk to Water" by Linda Sue Park, the setting, being a desert, takes effect in influencing characters, plot, and mood throughout the story. Firstly, the setting of this novel causes Nya to experience many feelings and emotion such as pain, sorrow, and grief.
Artist like Giotto, Cimabue, Donatello are artists that had a major influence on the italian renaissance. With these artists a group of genius began within the Renaissance. There was the Age of Exploration once Columbus found America in 1492, furthermore as Magellan’s and different Europeans’ discoveries around areas of Africa.. There have been many works that helped make the time.
Nya’s family also pulls together later in the book to help her little sister. When they are staying at the lake camp, Nya’s family must drink water that has not been sterilized. They can’t afford to boil the water because there is so little of it in the first place that it would all evaporate. Due to the unsanitary conditions, Nya’s sister Akeer gets sick and her family has to decide if they will make the long trek to see the doctor. Park states, “Nya’s father had decided that Akeer needed a doctor.
Perseverance is an important theme in A Long Walk To Water. The first example of Perseverance is when Salva listens to what his uncle says. His uncle uses his full name, and Salva thinks of his family. Uncle tells him to only walk as far as that bush, or clump of rocks. Salva perseveres by thinking of his family.
