The Tortoise and the Hare: College Basketball Style Around 600 BC Aesop described a competition that compared creatures of vastly differing speeds in “The Tortoise and the Hare”. In men’s college basketball every contemporary game highlights the contrasting aspects of this tempo battle and this past seasons game between UVA and Duke, along with classic contests featuring prototypes in tempo control Princeton and Loyola Marymount, truly demonstrate the similarities and differences between the slowdown and up-tempo basketball strategy. Up-tempo and slowdown styles in men’s college basketball have the similar goal of victory but look to achieve it differently. Both employ specialized defensive schemes and offensive sets in attempts to compensate
In this essay I will be talking about how educated Wes Moore and Arthur Agee have in common with their families. In Hoop Dreams and The Other Wes Moore these two kids went thru a lot in life that brought them down but there was always something that kept them going to accomplishing their dreams. Arthur Agee grew up poor and was tough for him and his family. Beginning of his life he grew up watching his dad beat his mom and taking drugs, one of the toughest thing for a child to witness at a young age.
Describing, and living the emotional rollercoaster between each character as they grew in success or perished in horrible ways. This book transforms the human mind through each one of the literary challenges that Larson uses to make a deeper connection to the readers. It takes you to a new state of mind when in Holmes head, and gives you inside look of how, and what a serial killer thinks. Yet with Burnham it gives you a inside look at the growth of the city, and the bond between people. This book would not be complete without the contrasting of the light and dark, heaven and hell, and good and evil aspect
The novel goes through many recurring themes such as child abuse, social and economic differences, and legitimacy. These themes not only impact the main character but all the characters as a whole. It is the harrowing story of how Ruth Anne “Bone” Boatwright, a child must learn to cope and deal with the many terrible atrocities that are inflicted upon her by her stepfather, “Daddy Glen.” Before Bone could even coherently make a judgment upon herself she was labeled as an outcast. She was a sin and mistake that should be labeled as such for the world to know about it.
The Movie I chose to review was a documentary named Hoop Dreams. It follows the lives of two star basketball players, Arthur Agee and William Gates, raised in two very different environments. In the documentary director Steve James and co-film makers Frederick Marx and Peter Gilbert follow Arthur and William for five years filming their aspirations to make it to the pros. This movie is relevant to the course because of the popular culture items that are included in the movie. I think the majority of black kids grew up wanting to play basketball or be a professional athlete in some aspect.
Hunter College author, Pamela Wonsek in her journal, “College basketball on television: a study of racism in the media”, believes that the media plays a role in racial stereotypes and maintaining the dominance of white culture. She supports her claim first by explaining the stereotypes the white culture have made about African American, then she says, ‘since the entire coaching staff for men’s basketball is traditionally male, the paradigmatic choices are black or white… the overall image is white” (Wonsek 453). Displaying that even if the team was majority consisted of African Americans, but during a sport game most the people are whites, and finally African American are overrepresented in sports advertisements. Wonsek’s purpose is to reveal to audience the media portray young African American as an athlete only. She adopts an objective tone to show the intended audience on how African American’s are being portrayed by the media.
He eloquently depicts how hectic and emotional misery lane was. Revealing how relatives were forced to identify the charred bodies of their loved ones. How they were forced to inspect all the bodies just to find the smallest strand of evidence to identify their loved ones. This draws you into the book and keeps you hooked
Although he starts his adventure easygoing and naive, Cole's journey is one that leads him from innocence to maturity in his search for a personal haven, suggesting that one’s development and growth stem from new experiences. As the environment and society around him are changing, Cole remains steadfast in his unwillingness to give up the past, emphasizing his naiveté and innocence. The world is coming face to face with modernization and cowboys and ranchers like him are starting to lose their place in the world. His thoughts reveal this attitude when he watches his mother’s play at the theatre.

The narrator’s eyes are closed and he is being led by a blind man, yet he is able to see. Carver never explains what it is the narrator sees, but there is the sense that he has found a connection and is no longer detached or isolated. The narrator is faced with a stark realization and glimmer of hope. Hope for new views, new life and probably even new identity. Even the narrator’s wife is surprised by the fact that her husband and Robert really get along together.
If you follow the American football religiously, then you would know the connection between the football-coaching tree and the style of play that teams implement. In the NBA, the coaching tree has similar connections and the devil can be seen in the details when it comes to the Golden State Warriors style of play and coaching trees of former assistant coaches now at other teams. Earlier this season while conducting some basketball analytics on the Boston Celtics to determine what went wrong for them in the last 15 games before the All-Star break, as compared to their first 44 games of the season, I observed a striking trend in the data. The New Orleans Pelicans and to a lesser extent the Los Angeles Lakers had similar analytical trends on offence

Basketball Basketball is a worldwide sport played as a team sport with 5 players on each side, it is also played on a rectangular basketball court. The game can also be reduced or played by 1-1 or 2-2 or 3-3.The goal of the game is too shoot or throw a basketball through a hoop. The sport was invented by Dr. James Naismith who was also a teacher in the year 1891, first played in Massachusetts. The game alone includes several techniques that players should always know how to do in order to play dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding and i am sure there is much more in order to be a skilled basketball player. The Creepy Basketball First, it was a cold dark night in the winter only one sound MO! HA! HA! HA! HA! It came for the haunted house down on fourth with the creepy basketball.
Air ball— again. My form was lost, coordination gone, and so was my patience. I’ve stopped playing basketball for 3 months mainly because of school work and things going on in my life. I was determined to get my skills back no matter how long it’ll take. I started a game of basketball with other people inside the gyms court.
