Ellie Wiesel, the author of Night, writes a highly graphic and realistic account of living in the middle of the Holocaust. Wiesel goes into much detail during many instances about holocaust life, luring the reader into his hell. During his life within the Holocaust, Wiesel witnesses a child being hung, the sacrificing of a truckload of children in a fiery ditch, people being shot, his own father being beaten by other prisoners, a son beating his father for bread, prisoners eating their own waste to survive, and many other inconceivable acts. In Night, the prisoners are stripped of almost everything that makes them human. At the end of the novel, Ellie looked at himself in the mirror after many years of being a prisoner; “I saw a corpse”,
“In that instant I feel the thinness of his arms.” Rodriguez states this about his father and the current state that he is in. This is the first encounter and time Rodriguez and his father exchanged words that night. The reader can infer that his father is still upset about him being fluent in English. Rodriguez also notices the state his father is in and that he is getting old and that his mother looks very sad.

The presentation of a barren land reveals to the reader the inevitable fate everyone comes to at the end of life. Thus, to make up for the uselessness of humans after death, people must seek opportunities to make a life worthy before the end. No matter the impact one may have on society while in the flesh, nothing matters once the individual dies. In similar fashion, Robert William Service’s poem “Brave New World” uses alliteration of a hard “g” sound to emphasize the struggle of life and how none of life’s accomplishments matter years after an individual’s fatality.

He describes four types of dying men before addressing his father.
