In “Finished with the war: A Soldier's Declaration” Siegfried Sassoon sent a letter protesting to the commanding officers talking deliberately on the sufferings of the war. Sassoon stood on behalf of the soldiers showing awareness of those who were scared to raise a voice for a change in the war. Sassoon declared that the system was failing its country and as a result, the war was killing its own people. Many soldiers were being forced to go to the war at such an early age where they have not yet matured. Sassoon’s poetry inspired other writers to focus their literary works on the mainstream of what was going on during the war and focused on how their own country’s patriotism was a lie.
