In the text “Why Kids Sext” by Hannah Rosin goes into detail why kids sext, what these kids are doing is wrong because it invades privacy, on how social media has a big part, harm that is being done by this, and the proper way to deal with this without making laws to lock kids up for making mistakes. This text was based on a school that had a huge problem with sexting. Photos of girls in this school were being posted on a porn site and on social media. When the parents found out there daughters were on this site they were very disappointed and wanted this shut down as soon as possible. These were smart straight A students that made a simple mistake.
In “The End of the Women’s college?” by Brian Burton, Burton engages the reader by positioning his thesis, “[a]s women continue to advance in society and the detrimental effects of gender discrimination continue to fade, women’s colleges will continue to decline in number and in purpose” (1). In his essay “The twenty-first-century Campus: Where Are the Men?” which appears in Sociology, Macionis describes the very common gender discrimination that favored men a century ago. Men’s colleges were to be seen in a great majority, however, steadily in a few years women began to increase. The gender gap was evident in all cultural categories at all class levels. Later on women started to become fairly a great majority at colleges and a gender imbalance was created. Women usually dominated discussions at college as there were few men in class.
Jennifer Delahunty Britz’s article, “To All the Girls I’ve Rejected”, begins by explaining how her daughter was waitlisted at a college she was qualified to attend. Following this, Britz elucidates reasoning behind this, informing that colleges show bias towards male applicants. It soon becomes clear that many declined and waitlisted female applicants possess more capability than accepted males. In order to prevent this, admission committees should exercise a gender-blind admittance procedure. Although race appears to be the source of these inequalities, it should be noted that other factors contribute as well. For instance, if a black child came from a high class family, he could afford to attend Morris High. Likewise, a white child from a low class family might only have the option of attending a school in East St. Louis. Through Kozol’s Savage Inequalities: Children in America’s Schools, it can be observed that children like those at Morris High are taught about racial inequalities, but are not taught to recognize white privilege. In addition, they seem to only be passionate about issues that have potential to benefit them personally.
Love tends to effect each character’s action differently. For example, love is what motivated the plot of the story “The Valley of Girls” by Kelly Link. For instance, the Olds observed society and performed actions to make sure their children are aligned with success. Love and social status is what makes these people relate, or correlate with each other; it reminds me of a government politically develop by love and society. In this paper I will be discussing how Boys and Girls Clubs are used as a deterrence method to keep “at-risk” children off the streets. These programs are all across the country in inner cities and in rural areas. I will be using the Boys and Girls Club to look at its relationship with Social Disorganization theory. The Boys and Girls Club has been around since 1860, when three women decided to open their doors to underprivileged boys. They “believed that boys who roamed the streets should have a positive alternative” (Boys & Girls Clubs of America).
This is a perfect example of institutional racism where youth come from low- income families are place in environments to set to fail. In Rich's essay, I see that the idea of where you come from, or what is your ethnicity, does not matter; the only matter that I can see is that what have you learn from the years that you are in school. The majority of texts, lectures, studies, etc., they divided themselves into some specifics categories which show the deep diversity in schools and how they divide the equal to study between men and women. Education is important, equality in school should be considered to be important as well. Sexism in 1970s was an issues, even until modern day is still a big issues because many women do not have their right to go to school.
