Of mice and men is a book wrote by John Steinbeck. It is from the 1900’s and uses the language and setting from then. I read this in my class when I was in 10th grade. It was a very short but good book. I can see where people may have problems with it, but I think if your child is old enough they should already know what happened back then. Also most teenagers understand once they start reading the novel. It is taught in an English class where you comprehend things, you must comprehend the book before you have a problem with it. In the book George ran with a boy named Lennie. Lennie wasn't the brightest, but George helped him with everything. Lennie would mess up from time to time but it was always covered up by George. At the end of the book, George kills Lennie because Lennie accidently killed a woman. George didn't know the story of what happened but he also knew if he didn't, then someone else would kill Lennie. Growing up he received little mice from his Aunt Clara. He would accidentally snap their necks by just petting them. He never got in trouble for it though. He just got a new one. He was never held responsible because it was just a little pet. After his Aunt died George agreed to take of Lennie. He would try to get on to Lennie when things like that happened but Lennie just never fully understood. Lennie was very forgetful, he always would remember what happened that day and by the next it was all gone. Lennie loves touching stuff he likes. Most of the time that's what got him in trouble. Just before he accidently killed the lady, he had a dog and by petting it too hard he killed him too. George realized it was progressing quickly because before the dog was another woman but Lennie just wanted to touch her pretty red dress. Even though George didn't know about the dog he knew it was
