I’d rather are the most important words in Julio Noboa Polancos poem “Identity” because it means multiple things and effects many pieces of the writing. Throughout the story, in the second, fourth, and fifth stanzas the author uses these words to say what he wants and what he doesn't want. He compares multiple traits and which ones are better. For example, the first stanza it states that, “I’d rather be a tall, ugly weed, clinging on cliffs, like an eagle wind-wavering above high, jagged rocks” He is comparing this to the first paragraph which talks about flowers, and how they are always watered, fed, guarded, admired, but harnessed to a pot of dirt.
