Whale talk, a book about a teen named tj, who struggled with family values and friends. With a little courage, and an oddball group of kids on a swim team, they learn that if you keep on going, you can and will succeed. Chris crutcher, the author of this book, is a special writer. The reason i say that is due to the fact that, he writes his books using examples of modern day themes and situations. Crutcher wrote whale talk around a few themes/messages that he wanted to pursue, and one of the messages was that if you have perseverance, you will keep on going no matter what situation you are in, and that is exactly what crutcher showed in his book, whale talk.
Not Wanted on the Voyage explores the human condition. Timothy Findley creates situations where the passengers of the ark are forced to come to terms with their humanity; and he does it aggressively. It seems to me that Findley takes a more, head on and open approach to exploring these subjects. Take for example, the scene where Noah rapes his 11 year old daughter-in-law with a unicorn’s horn, killing the unicorn in the process, in order to prepare her for her husband. The novel serves both as a retelling of the book of genesis; and as a kind of social commentary.
All of the boys went back to looking like statues not knowing what to say or what to think. Some of the boys trying to stay positive while others tried to remember what was the last thing they said to their loved ones. Most of the younger boys started to cry and scream. All of a sudden all of the boys started to scream. The didn 't scream because of their families but because the plane was speeding to the ground.
Clues are scattered, leaving the small boy to pick them up. His parents were terrified of giving him and his sister exposure to society, displaying how outcast the they were. The siblings have been kept away by other children their age, people around them, and even the very city they live in. Realizing his parents could be literal, cannibalistic, monsters, Adam runs away, sister in hand. From the point on, the strings connecting the siblings to family start to fray.

Stolen Seas brings up many of the main points of the other articles on Somali piracy. The film touches on ideas of the causes of piracy in Somalia, such as, weak government and greater rewards. Also the documentary discusses the responses that are available to stop piracy and why nothing was being done. The documentary also uses first person accounts to display what the atmosphere and attitudes surrounding Somali piracy were. Stolen Seas essentially reinforces the ideas about the causes of Somali piracy presented by Christian Bueger and Samatar et al.

The Sea Inside is the heartbreaking tale of a man who wants nothing more than to die. Ramon Sampedro (Javier Bardem), a man who has been paralyzed from the neck down for the last 26 years, struggles with basic tasks every day and has lost the desire to live. He desires death as an end to his never-ending struggle. He partners with a lawyer, Julia (Belen Rueda), who has a degenerative disease that will eventually put her in a state similar to his, in an effort to legalize his right to die. The sea inside is the tale of just one man, but it brings up a question which can apply to many others in similar situations; should one suffering from paralysis or any other terminal illnesses have the right to die peacefully through euthanasia, or should he be forced to continue to suffer in his current situation?
In Guillermo Lavin’s “Reaching the Shore” contains imagery of Maquiladoras, parental role model, machismo, and addiction. “Reaching the Shore” is about the Mexican culture and economic structure. Through these topics, I believe the idea of Mexican culture and economic structure are expressed. Jose Paul admires his father and wants to be just like him. I believe that as young boy growing up you look up to your father as that male role model you'd like to be when you're an adult.
Background of the play “Riders to the Sea” is a one-act play written by Irish playwright John Millington Synge. J.M. Synge, after visiting the Aran Islands situated off the Irish coast, found inspiration in the peasant life of rural Ireland. He started making annual trips in the summer and studied the lives of ordinary people and observed their superstitions, culture and folklore. This play was based on his experiences while there. On one of his trips he heard the story of a man whose body was found washed up on the shore on one of the Aran Islands.
