The thought of being able to hear everyone 's’ thoughts, all the time is truly terrifying. This is the case for all the men in the novel The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness, this ability to hear everyone’s thoughts is known as “the Noise”. The setting of Prentisstown on New World is a town filled with nothing but lies to the protagonist, Todd Hewitt. The characters in the novel are constantly trying to manipulate others to get them to do as they want, especially Aaron, an old fashioned run down preacher at Prentisstown’s church and the mayor of Prentisstown. The minor themes in “The Knife of Never Letting Go” come together to help present the main theme of the novel.
“Don’t leave me" she begged. Despite having the strength to endure the disaster, Azucena still died even with a friend by her side, Rolfe Carlé. This story provides that, the theme shows people often fall short despite their best effort instead of unalterable tragic natures of life because Rolfe gave his best effort to pull her out, but yet she still sank in the mud. Another reason is that Rolfe tried to help Katharina hide from their father, but was abused and killed by their father. First off, when Rolfe said he was going to get Azucena out.
The concept of longing and love is presented in different ways by Rita Dove and Anna Swir in their poems. In “I’ll open the Window,” Anna Swir focuses on the opportunities that the future will bring upon ending a long, tiresome relationship. She employs poetic devices like personification, imagery, onomatopoeia, with a somber mood and reflection on her past relationship. On the contrary, “Flirtation” by Rita Dove conveys a feeling of hope and the joy of starting a new relationship through similes, metaphors, personification, and couplets. Both poems explore the idea of renewed hope that relationships bring either by starting a new one or ending an old one, while employing different stanza length, and creating different moods in the minds of the reader.
“Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night” is a poem written by Dylan Thomas at the time when his father was at the brink of death. The piece is actually a villanelle where it consist of six stanzas, each with three lines except for the sixth stanza which has four lines. The rhymes on the first until fifth stanzas are aba, aba, aba, aba, aba. While, abaa is the rhyme for the last quatrain stanza. Thomas died a few months after his father, it is believed that this poem was written by him especially for his father.
Human memory is becoming a worldwide investigation in the fields of psychology. Atkinson-Shiffrin model suggests long term and short term memory. The model believes that long term memory is caused by several rehearsals such maintenance rehearsal, elaborative rehearsal, and distinctiveness. Similarly levels of processing—depth of processing, which involves shallow processing and deep processing—involve processes that influence memory. However, unlike Atkinson-Shiffrin model, levels of processing do not distinguish memory into short term and long term.
Don’t Wanna Be Your Lover – Vanessa White (6th November) This is a shoot I ended up working on as a result of my brother being double booked and needing cover, which is an example of the type of informal recruitment that is rife in the film industry. It was a music video for the pop artist Vanessa White (best known for her time in the pop band “The Saturdays”) and I would be working with Gaffer Paul Burns. It was a different experience for me as I had never worked on a music video before, so I was intrigued to see how it would run in comparison to the other projects I had worked on. Moreover, every shoot is an opportunity to make new contacts and to demonstrate your skills to a gaffer who may want to use you again for future work.
