Daum’s view of her friend, Brian Peterson, suggests that his privilege and lack of importance for time hindered him from maturing. His family was not large, according to Daum,”The Peterson family unit was a tiny thing—mom, dad, kid. There were no other siblings, only a handful of relatives.” Brian’s parents gave him everything he wanted.

The peaceful melody of this new room allows the reader to have a more relaxed and trusting mindset about this group of women. In addition, a lullaby is a song a mother sings to a child, giving these women motherly qualities in the reader’s mind. Dim Lady Charles Caleb Colton once said “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”, and in Harryette Mullen’s homage to Shakespeare's sonnet 130, Mullens breathes new life into an antiquated poem by rescripting this classic work . Harryette Mullen, an american poet, writer and scholar, published the poem Dim Lady as a modern tribute to Shakespeare's sonnet and creates a contemporary translation of one of his most classic poems. Both poems explores the narrator's feelings towards their object of affection and casts an unappealing image of their beloved, all the while setting us up for a “turn” or a dramatic shift in perception of how the narrator views their partner. In the poem Harryette employs contemporary stylistic choices to create a new poem directly based off of Shakespeare's original work. Her work being a direct modern

Sweet and gentle are being expressed as imagery to describe the boy that Connie met the night before.
Heaney uses the English pattern sonnet as a form of ironic gesture towards the English. The poet took a risk in creating a both political, both rape poem, as these two topics are very controversial. He still managed not to become too political, but he let us know his inside thoughts about the matter. He describes women as weak, as someone who is easily oppressed.

Standing Female Nude, written by Carol Ann Duffy, is a poem which describes the condition of a prostitute who is struggling to make a living. Duffy, as with a majority of her other works, attempts to give a voice to voiceless women in the middle and lower economic classes in an effort to promote her feminist agenda. This poem is in fact very layered and explores multiple aspects which may not be spotted on a superficial level, and enables her to transmit her ideas to the readers. Duffy puts across her main ideas of society’s treatment of the prostitute versus the treatment of males, and the prostitutes introspective views. Duffy creates a society, not too distorted from our own in fact, which objectifies the woman and values her purely for her physical assets.
