In King’s letter from Birmingham, he concludes his 50 paragraph letter by using specific rhetorical strategies in order to connect himself to the clergymen to whom he writes by shifting his tone from the disturbed and excited writing in the rest of the letter to one that is calm and composed toward his current situation in jail, and also by using more positive imagery and language. His attitude immediately changes in these closing three paragraphs in an attempt to assure the clergymen that he is reasonable in all his assertions, even asking for forgiveness for any over- or understated claims, apologizing for ever straying from the path of truth and patience, and he also asks “God to forgive [him]” (para. 49). In order for a person to learn, they have to either make mistakes or learn from others mistakes. Jeanette 's parents mistake was that they didn’t think about their future and they did whatever they could to survive their hardships. Similarly, Jeanette leaned from her parents mistakes that in order for her to be successful she needs to make a sacrifice and that sacrifice will lead her to a purposeful and a brighter future. Right now I have goals, goals that I sometime doubt that I can achieve. Sure, I say that I will go through with everything I set up for myself but I feel that I will reach a point where I am too tired and fed up to continue to the end and give up. That’s something I don’t want to happen to me. Reading this book helped me remember that things like certificates, diplomas, money, wealth, etc. will not be handed down to me. I need to work for what I want, it will not be easy, but it will definitely be worth it in the end.
It is crucial to Jeanette’s development that she recognizes the need to be independent and to acknowledge the drive and determination required to succeed in life. Without the ability to persevere and push oneself past their fears, a person will inevitably fail, something Jeanette will not tolerate. In another example, while

Chapter two in the textbook Reflect & Relate an Introduction to Interpersonal Communication by Steven McCornack talks all about what “self” is and how to achieve complete fulfillment for one’s self which is also known as self-actualization. The components of self, as described in the book are, “ . . . self-awareness, self-concept, and self-esteem” (McCornack 39). Self-awareness is the idea in which one can take a moment to move feelings, beliefs, and other external influences aside and just evaluate oneself in a holistic perspective that is not skewed by opinions of others, etc. Having the ability to actually think about who one is brings a lot of power and mental stability in such a way that allows for improvement.
People often don’t think about the impact of their words. Humans have different experiences in life and people don’t necessarily recognize others’ views or experiences. And I can believe that she’ll come back one day. I wish I could say I was stronger because of what has happened, but the only strength I have is accredited from the strength of others who helped my family. There have been a majority of people who couldn’t understand my mom’s condition, so they ran. And then there those, who whether or not they understood, found the courage and patiences to help my
The two key topics in class in the last weeks, for me. Two of the most relevant topics developed in the last weeks were: non-verbal communication and the barriers to communication. Everytime we communicate with another person or group of people, we have to take into account some factors other than what we are actually saying that can affect how the message is going to be received: body language, tone, intonation, facial expressions, and others; this is what we understand for non-verbal communication. As we saw in class “55% of communication is body language, 38% is the tone of voice, and 7% is the actual words spoken.”
In society today, communication classes are highly over looked because of our new developing technology. People don’t realize how much a communication class could benefit them. We have lost sight of verbal communication skills. This class has taught me to put my phone down and communicate with others. It has opened my eyes to the real world without technology.
