The song “Contrabando Y Traición” is credited for popularizing the narcocorrido sub- genre, and features a uniquely cinematic style of lyrical story-telling uncommon for its time, combined with a catchy yet simplistic song structure that could be appreciated by audiences of all backgrounds. Narcocorridos themselves are a style of traditional Spanish corrido that focus on commemorative figures, events and people related to the drug-trafficking trade that was growing in the 1930's, sharing many similarities to the epic lyrical ballads that were the corridos themselves, and giving them a more contemporary spin. Victor M. Rios was born in Mexico. When he was two years old he immigrated with his mother to Oakland, California. He went through a tough childhood and he and his mother moved several times throughout poor neighborhoods such as West Oakland, The Fruitvale District, and Elmhurst. As a result of growing up in this kind of environments he was forced to be part of Latino East Oakland gangs. Stealing cars, selling drugs, getting into street fights and having problems with police was all he would do until he was 15 years old.

I have learned that success is to be measured not much by the position that one has reached in the live as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. Everyone has faced obstacles and most of the time some people overcome them. Thee obstacles that people face have to overcome, live with them, or even just go around them. Three characters that face and overcome obstacles in imaginary literature or real life are Jon Krakauer, Odysseus, and me. Jon Krakauer had obstacles to face when he climbed down Mt.Everest in the excerpt of “Into Thin Air”.
Growing up he was sent to a Native American boarding school where they encouraged Ortiz to leave the culture he loved and to adapt to American ways. Feeling like an outsider he found comfort in
In life, there are many possible roads that a person can take. Some may be smooth and lined with gold bricks and success, and some may be bumpy and paved with dirt and frustration. The things that a person does in their lifetime that leads to the end of the road comes along with many accomplishments and even more failure along the way. There are some things that can prevent these defeating things from happening such as a good supportive family and having role models in life. As exemplified by the memoir The Other Wes Moore, the author suggests that regardless of environment, lives can end up entirely divergent due to family support, choices and consequences.

This uncommon story describes how even life is not yours to fully command and God is always molding a true path that will take you to your end. “Here I am between my flock and my treasure, the boy thought. He had to choose between something he had become accustomed to and something he wanted to have.” (30) Santiago must realize that it is he that is holding him back and to take the risk. Once Santiago found out about the term personal legend he will take the risk. “There was nothing to hold him back except himself.
The main character in the narrative had ceased to find meaning in his work. If the odds are not in one’s favor, it does not mean that he or she cannot accomplish his or her goals. Sherman Alexie proved this by overcoming the barriers and the doubts to become a writer. In his essay Superman and Me Alexie conveys anyone can accomplish their goals, he does this by using the rhetorical devices anecdote, ethos, and anaphora. Alexie utilizes personal anecdotes throughout the essay to demonstrate how he has overcome the odds. In the beginning he discussed how he was introduced to reading, then conveys the extent of his effort towards reading and how it has assisted him in becoming a successful writer.
The differences in utilitarianism and Kantian approaches to the abortion question is utilitarianism would be indifferent about abortion whereas Kantian ethics would be against abortion. Utilitarianism looks at the happiness and suffering caused by an action to determine the rightness and wrongness of an action (CITATION). Based on this, utilitarianism would be indifferent about abortion based on the circumstances that surround it. For example, if the fetus will be healthy, expected to live a long life, and the parents want the child then abortion would be wrong. This is due to the fact that the parents would be happy to have the fetus live and grow with them.
Dreaming is Nice, Until You Wake Up The novel Foreign Gods, Inc., by Okey Ndibe tells a story of a man, Ike, who harbors many idealistic aspirations for his life, but faces the obstacles of reality that force him to lead a life different than his expectations; however, he falls into the trap of chasing increasingly unrealistic dreams, which leaves him worse off than ever before. The first example of how reality differs from Ike’s dreams is when the author explains how Ike is forced to work as a cab drive for many years, instead of pursuing his true aspirations with his outstanding college degree, “He’d worked as a driver for thirteen years, ever since graduating from Amherst College, cum laude, in economics” (Ndibe 13). As can be seen, Ike is oddly employed in a job for which he is greatly overqualified.
