The story “Unemployed and Working” from Simon Wykoff shows his conventional thinking by writing to influence readers to reimagine the stereotype of the “lazy bum” commonly given to homeless people. The author explains how homeless people work to accomplish the most important job to humans, surviving, which can be just as difficult as a conventional job. Wykoff gives his own personal testimony about the life of his homeless father and the daily struggles and process he went through. He first explains his father’s decision of not using services for homeless people, and how he coped with that while living on the streets. He then goes through each task done by his father in a day, starting with saying how there was often a good chance that something of his was stolen while he was asleep and elaborating on how his father would buy himself food if he had made enough money, but if he had not then he would have to check dumpsters to satisfy his hunger.
Before executing his experiment Shepard had been dealing with his mother 's fight against lymphoma. That was something that was always going to be on the back burner of his mind throughout the course of his journey, But he knew that his mother was “a fighter, with a vibrant spirit at every battle” (204). Having a strong willed mother may have influenced him to not give up and understood that going through hard times will only benefit and make oneself stronger. While McCandless only went on his adventure for the purpose of self satisfaction. McCandless seemed to have apparent issues within society and “he would rave about that of thing for hours” (Krakauer 7), but took no action to resolve the issue.
There are many circumstances that lead to homelessness. Homelessness has an issue in today’s society and is largely ignored. Everyplace you see around out urban society, parks and streets it is likely that you will witness a homeless person struggling to survive. Over the years, homelessness in the United States has become a dangerous social problem because of the choice made by a person, unemployment and lack of education, and addiction. There are more than 500,000 homeless people in America (Johnson). There are many reasons and causes for people to end up living this way, but the biggest cause is tragic life events, for like loss of loved ones, job loss, domestic violence, divorce, and family disputes. “Homeless on Campus,” by Eleanor Bader is a summary of homeless students on college campuses. Bader taught English at Kingsborough Community College and she was also a freelance writer. This report explains how many students on college campuses are homeless and are trying to continue their education. Bader illustrates her points by writing about students that share their personal stories about their hardships. She also communicates with others who have insight and information about students who have no home and are going to college.
So even if the woman in Walnut Creek didn't have a photo of her house in her bag, she would have had other things she could have told me about her past if I had bothered to ask her rather than interrogate her. I needed to remember that while her situation is different from mine, she's a vulnerable human like me. Thinking that Quindlen's essay was about how the homeless need a place to live like anyone else, an argument with which I now agree, the point could also be made that a unique home where one can paint a room blue or red or black is just one of many things we should provide the homeless. But certainly we can only know what the homeless need if we understand them not as "nouns" but as unique people with memories and aspirations.

With the increased use of housing-based assistance programs being created, there is a positive outlook for homeless looking for assistance getting back on their feet by acquiring affordable housing. The ability to apply and gain benefits through state and federal programs is helping to provide food and some financial assistance to the homeless population as well as a community outreach programs being deployed in cities all over the country. New opportunities for employment and training are available for those who are homeless and looking to get back into the workforce and get off the street. The road ahead for the homeless population is, of course, paved with struggles and detours, but with the continued efforts of our country, states and communities we can work together to aid in the reduction of homelessness with the continued efforts in creating and maintaining affordable housing programs, assistance programs, and workforce development
Both Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome came about in 30 BC. Both of their monarchs were big rivals. Both countries tried to outdo each other and make better things than each other. Both Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome dealt with transportation but they did so in different ways.
