INTRODUCTION Every action has an opposite reaction and as human beings we are able to control our actions that prevent us from facing consequences as opposed to if we don't . This idea is illustrated in the novel written by “Laurie Halse Anderson” about how an individual should take the responsibility of their actions because if they don't than their actions can affect one's ability to become successful in life. In my life, I had to deal with a negative consequence that affected me significantly because of the poor decision I made in the past. Melinda tried to her hurt self physically and mentally because of how ashamed she was and couldn't seek help because she was afraid. The girl could have prevented herself from being raped by if she had made wiser choices and not attend the part at the first place. Melinda had the power to handle her crisis by not attending the party and abusing herself because at the end of the novel her choices defined her success. Melinda had the ability to speak about her incident and get an productive solution which could have helped solve her problems but instead she kept quiet and let the rage grew inside of her. An individual has the power to speak about their actions and prevent them from occurring but If one doesn't take the responsibility of their actions than they deal with consequences which affect them severely. Melinda could have prevented herself from being raped if she hadn't attended the party, by speaking up for herself, and by avoiding getting into a fight with Andy Evans when he physically tried to abuse her. from Melinda’s experience and from my past I’ve learned not to let my anger cloud my productive decisions. For example, recently I was expelled from my previous high school because of my poor decisions that could have prevented me from getting into a fight and at the end caused me to put myself myself situation where the result was being expelled.
