The article, “California house of horrors parents face life in prison on torture, abuse charges”, authored by Greg Norman, informs the reader about two parents that held their thirteen children hostage in Perris, California. On January 16, 2018, the 17-year-old daughter of David and Louise Turpin escaped from her home to call the police because she and her 12 siblings were held hostage in their own home. Once the police arrived, they barged into the home only to find malnourished children, and some chained to their beds. This disgusting sight will put the parents of these children in jail for the rest of their lives, with a bail of nine million dollars. As stated by the article, “Riverside County District Attorney Michael Hestrin announced Thursday that Louise Anna Turpin, 49, and David Allen Turpin, 57, have been hit with an array of charges, including counts of torture, child abuse, false imprisonment and a lewd act on a child by force, fear or duress. …show more content…

To elaborate, one should have an emotional affect to this tragic decision made by these appalling parents. This event should have a huge significance to the world because, there many families that mistreat their children. Readers can now stay alert for any sign from a child who has abusive parents. For example, if one sees a child walking from their home crying with their head down, and bruises all over his/her face, possibilities are that they have an abusive parent. Children should not spend a majority of their life living with parents that harm and abuse them. Every child deserves to be loved and cared for by their family.
