The effects of child abuse among African American males in Brooklyn A major topic of concern nowadays is the many incidents of child abuse. In starting this research, I realized that it is a clear-cut issue. Many African-American families have struggled for generation with persistent poverty, especially in the inner-cities. The everyday newscast was always saturated with evidence of widespread drug use. This activity no doubt compounded the issues of poverty. Clearly evidence can be found to support the position of child abuse that arises from the many factors, some of which were mentioned in the beginning of this paper. Physical abuse The first position will allude to physical abuse., According to an article in the New York Post dated January 26, 2017 an African-American young mother in Brooklyn beat her four-year-old son with a broomstick. The poor infant was then, “placed in a makeshift bathtub”, while their he succumbed to his injuries and died. The mother was arrested, charged with murder and manslaughter. This mother was 26 years old and according to one source, the age ranges of parents or caregivers that are most likely to abuse a child ranges between 18 to 44 (Crosson-tower 2016). The core intentions of most of these programs are geared to ensure that all children receive their basic right to a safe life so that they can have the opportunity to grow and thrive. It is important for children to be taught to recognize, resist report physical and sexual abuse. Children gaining this kind of knowledge will be able to keep themselves safe while they sojourn to the end of the abuse cycle.
