The article I read was called “Weekends in Jail for Rape? Why people get sentenced to ‘weekend jail’ by Corey Johnson” This article starts off with Molly Shattuck who raped a 15-year old boy in Georgetown, Delaware. The former Baltimore Ravens cheerleader walked out of the courtroom last week even after raping a 15-year old. She was only sentenced to “48 alterning weekends at the SussexVilation of Probation Center.”

In the January 29, The Stanford Daily editorial Stanford, California, it debates the different essential of the principle of morality and identified Brock Turner had applied a use of force in raping an unconscious woman behind the dumpster. Furthermore, the young man attended Stanford University and participated in his college swim team dreamt of partaking in the Olympus. The victim heartfelt statement during the trial is disregarded because he comes from a class of privilege and is a man. Not to mention, Brock Turner’s father wrote a letter to expressing the universalizability to court saying, “my son’s life shouldn’t be ruined over 20 minutes of action (Dreher,Rod).” Therefore, Aaron Persky who is a California judge implemented an ethical decision that contemplated the clarity around both the specific choice and decision then declared a six months sentenced ruling.
The Emmett Till case should be taught in 2018 as not just a murder that triggered the civil rights movement, but as a case that still reflects the injustices that African American men face in the American Justice system. Not only should Emmitt till’s murder reflect the injustices in America today, but retaught since new information has recently surfaced which shows a different side to the whole case. Emmett Till was murdered on August 28, 1955 in Money, Mississippi and found beaten and floating in the local river. Emmett Till was murdered by Carolyn Bryant’s husband Roy Bryant and her brother-in-law Milam Bryant.
Do you view the young woman as a victim of rape, even though she was under the influence and the defendant never penetrated her with his penis? - Yes, I see the young woman as a victim of rape because whether or not he penetrated her with his penis, he had the intent to because her underwear was off, her legs were spread open, he was erect, and he was on top of her as if he was having sex with her. Also, the young woman was unconscious at the time and had no idea this was even taking place. Brock Turner clearly had gone after someone he knew he could get something out of because at the time the victim could not verbally consent to him.
To be a privileged Caucasian male in America is to be found guilty of three counts of sexual assault and receive a recommended sentence of six years out of the maximum fourteen that these crimes carry. Brock Turner is the privileged student of Stanford University that ended up being sentenced to only six months out of the six years but, only served a brief ninety days in county jail. People vs. Turner features young college student Brock turner and his crimes of sexual assault against an unconscious ‘Jane Doe’ behind a garage dumpster. Although physical and eyewitness testimony concluded that Jane Doe was unconscious during the time of the assault and for the following hours, Brock Turner stated the encounters were consensual. In a suburb outside St. Louis known as Ferguson on August 9, 2014, Michael Brown, a black unarmed teenager was shot and killed by a white police officer, Darren Wilson. Ferguson isn’t known as a violent town when it is compared to its neighboring towns. On November 24, 2014, the jury decided not to indict Officer Darren Wilson. Thus, the uprising began. There was already distrust with the majority white police department.
The reason O.J. was found not guilty of murder and acquitted in criminal court, but found guilty of the tort of harm and ordered to pay damages in the civil court lies in the structure of our legal system, in regards to criminal cases and civil cases. The distinct difference between criminal cases and civil cases provides further explanation regarding the O.J. Simpson case. Criminal cases deal with crimes against society. It is the government, not the victim, who brings action against the charged individual. In criminal cases, the penalties can include a number things including jail time.
In February 2012, a 28-year-old man followed a 17-year-old youth and killed him on a residential street. The youth hadn’t done anything; he did not commit a crime, and he hadn’t provoked the older man. He was shot simply because he seemed “suspicious.” This was the story of Trayvon Martin’s death in Sanford, Florida at the hands of George Zimmerman (Cooper). Zimmerman, the killer, is a white man while Trayvon was an innocent black youth.
The Brock Turner case is a very controversial case that spark debate on the subject of white male privilege and the abuse of power. People speculate that the only reason Turner received such a minimal sentence is because his parents are affluent and influential, due to their success and status as a white professional. He was found guilty and the judge gave him a very lenient sentence. Many people saw this as unfair to the girl that was raped and to everyone else impacted by this man 's crime. The judge 's name is Aaron Persky.
OJ Simpson was an idolized NFL player, actor, and broadcaster. He was loved by all and defied all racial barriers during the 1900s. People didn’t see him for the color of his skin, they saw him as an American hero. This was until June 12, 1994 when Nicole Simpson, OJ Simpson’s ex wife, as well as Ronald Goldman were found murdered. This was the beginning of the end of most Americans respect and adoration for OJ Simpson.
Jack Reacher, the ex-major of U.S army and Major Turner, the 110th C.I.D military police were good friends for a long period. Once, he came to meet his friend, he saw police officers put hand-cuffs on her hand and walked as a captive for selling secrets. He genuinely wanted to know the maneuver behind it and voluntarily did a crime and got into the prison where Turner was capped, to find the real criminal for killing investigators and the Turner’s related lawyer. He saved Turner on time from being killed by strangers and they both escaped from the prison. Killer followed them to murder by using Morgan’s and General James’ command.
In society and college campuses, sexual assault occurs quite frequently. According to an estimation one third of women experience a forced sexual experience at least once in their life and most of the time it occurs in colleges. Rape and hate! The teacher asked the class to explain the meaning of hate. Alice the joker said: “Fanatic people create hate if they are allowed to lead a debate!” It is the fate of people with low grade to attack each other even with a spade until the police will have to come and raid!
