Eli has been cut out of the world, and hidden with his family in a place so unknown that everyone thinks they are dead. The novel "The Compound" by S.A. Boden shows the story of a 15 year old boy named Eli. He is the son of billionaire technopreneur Rex Yanakakis, who built a shelter to escape nuclear attacks. He soon realizes that the nuclear attack that caused them to hide in this shelter was fake, and his father has been keeping him and his family hidden just for a test to see how far they would go to survive. As Eli works harder to discover a way to escape this shelter, he makes many difficult choices that have positive effects on the safety of his family.
In the begging of the novel, Eli finds his supposedly dead brothers old laptop. His father catches him using it, and switches it out for a newer model that can 't connect to Wi-Fi, afraid Eli will find out the truth about what 's really going on. Eli later decides to confront his mother and sister on what secrets his dad is hiding. He knows if he tells his mom, both he, his mom, and sister will never be able to think of his dad the same way again. He decides knowing the truth is more important than ruining a relationship, and goes ahead and tells. The novel states, " 'Mom, I found something out last night. Something you might not believe. ' 'Tell me. ' My explanation included everything about the laptop from Eddy 's room and its wireless capability. I paused for a moment before getting to the crucial element. 'Mom, I talked to Eddy. '" When Eli tells his mom his findings, his mom is shocked. She never though that his dad could be such a bad person, when he acts all innocent and like the loving father everybody wants. Because of this, Eli is able to get his mom to turn against his dad and help
