INTRODUCTION
Shashi Deshpande, the living eminent writer in Indian English Literature occupies a great position. She has treated the familiar Indian topics delicately and has envisioned the contemporary high class woman’s with rare ability. She is the second girl of the renowned Kannada writer and Sanskrit researcher Sriranga. She was conceived in Dharwad in Karnataka, South India and was educated in Dharwad, Bombay and Bangalore. Deshpande has degrees in Economics and Law, which she completed with a Gold medal. After marriage, when she was living in Bombay (today 's Mumbai) she did a course on news-casting at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and worked for a few months as a columnist for the magazine 'On Looker '. She began composing around then, published her first short story in 1970. To begin with her stories were published in magazines like Femina ', Eve 's weekly, and so forth. Legacy ' the first gathering of her short stories turned out in 1978, and in 1980 her first novel, The Dark Holds No Terrors, was published. In June 1999, The Feminist press of New York drew out her novel, A Matter of Time, her first work to be published in USA, and in 2008, the Penguin Publishing House, New Delhi, published her most recent novel 'In The Country of Deceit '. Till now she has published seven short story accumulations, eight novels and two short crime novels, four novels for children’s. She has likewise composed the script and screenplays for a prize-winning Hindi feature film
