The novel consists of the narrator, Lisamarie Hill, telling her story in the present time; intertwined with these sequences of events is a series of flashbacks from her past to educate the reader about Lisa’s life up until the present. Throughout Monkey Beach, flashbacks and present tense narration depict time and place through the characters Lisamarie, Erica, and Josh, who experience sexual violence, due to colonizers, and residential schools. To begin with, the flashback technique and present tense narration portray time and place from the impact colonizers have on Lisamarie and Erica. Sexual violence occurs to Lisamarie’s cousin, Erica, who is being followed by a few young white men, in a car, hurling racist insults, until Lisamarie intervenes.

Power does take many forms, but in this scene the Orb and infinity stone hold all the power. A specific scene where Power has influenced one of the character’s behavior is one of the very last scenes in the movie, where Ronan holds all the power and is planning on destroying the universe. Since Ronan has possession of the infinity stone, the universe’s fate rests in the power of the stone Ronan has control of. Final Assignment of English Literature Reading BY YANG ZONGYOU, D01 “The False Gems”by the great writer Guy de Maupassant is a miracle that draws a delicate and precise image of France in the late 19th century. Written in an objective view, woven with sarcasm, this little piece of art reflects the truth of the society and humanity in its era without any obvious rhetoric, like a real old gem that shimmers constantly and gorgeously, leaving an ample space of ambiguity for readers to ponder over and over again. “The False Gems” seems to be objective, however, on the contrary, the plot of the story itself is a barrel of irony, in which the author 's opinion and emotion lies deeply — the genuine ones are found fake, while the false ones turn out to be real; knowing everything is not always good. Mrs. Lantin 's before-and-after contrary is ironic. At the very beginning of the story, everyone is convinced that Mrs. Lantin was a virtuous woman.
