The documentary Head Games directed by Steve James follows former football player and ex-wrestler, Chris Nowinski, on his mission to uncover the truth about the consequences of playing sports related to concussions. A concussion is a brain injury that you cannot see and where the brain moves around in the skull. More than 3.8 million concussions occur a year due to a sport. The documentary raises the question of whether protective head-gear should be worn in all contact sports. I believe a head is more likely to sustain more damage to the brain without a helmet than a head with a helmet.
Introduction In most cars today you will find an airbag. The airbag has three main parts. First the bag, which is made of a thin nylon fabric, holds the chemicals and sensors and folds into the steering wheel or the dashboard.
No one wants to be different but, everyone is. One of the main reason is culture. There are so many cultures that it makes it seem you are different from everyone else. In “Fish Cheeks” by Amy Tan, and “Taco Head” by Viola Candales both narrators face internal conflict with their culture and how people see them. They struggle with who they are, and who they want to be.
Proficiency is among the most imperative components of formal training, yet Garity shows how approaches like No Child Left Behind adds to the worldwide divide in education. A tremendous piece of education is the utilization of learning. One can 't shape sentiments on an issue if that individual does not know about that issue. The capacity to listen precisely is the best method to assimilate data regarding a matter. One can 't just sit in on a meeting and tune in to somebody talk and hope to assimilate what they are stating.

Implementing consistent professional development across the district will give teachers the latest information they need to address varying needs in the classroom. When teachers are equipped to meet the varying needs in the classroom, achievement gains will follow. Additionally, working with community partners to secure materials for the target group of students during the summer months would help narrow the achievement gap. In a 2010 study, “…providing easy access to self selected books for summer reading over successive years…limited summer reading setback” among economically disadvantaged students (Allington, McGill-Franzen, Camilli, Williams, Graff, Zeig, & Nowak,
This demonstrates my understanding of effective learning though appropriate instructional strategies because is displays how I implemented a variety of materials and technological resources to support my instructional strategies and reinforce student learning. It also conveys my ability to assess student’s through both formal (activity sheet) and informal (thumbs up) assessment techniques. These techniques help me evaluate the student’s strengths/weaknesses and the effectiveness of my instructional strategies. This particular skill outcome is important to early childhood education because implementing instructional strategies that reach the diversity of our students is going to promote overall student success. We, as early childhood educators, have to use a variety of strategies to discover more about the student’s developmental process and adjust our instruction in a way that will promote students to become self-directed
Journal Entry Eight 2 In the beginning of Chapter One, one can see that the author is overlooking her entire educational carrier. In this first page you realize that Ravitch is unpacking all of her past memories in a classroom. The author was looking over how her own perspective changed throughout the years of being in a reformed classroom. Ravitch changed views entirely and was not necessarily for the good.
When evaluating student learning outcomes, the students were engaged and participated throughout the lesson. The students were successfully able to compare and contrast the adapted grade-level text of Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory with the movie of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. My experience with this lesson was positive. I was able to capture student attention and modify the activities to cater to the needs of each student. I would modify this lesson by incorporating additional higher-order questions to meet the needs of students who require a greater challenge.
Next Steps How has this module inspired you? This program has motivated me to reconsider the importance of providing clear and specific guidance in my teaching techniques. It has demonstrated the enormous influence that well-crafted directions can have on student learning, conduct, and equality in the classroom. What will you do differently in your classroom?
While imperfect as it is, the CCSS initiative “focuses on developing the critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills students will need to be successful” (What parents should know, 2010, para. 2). Actual learning takes place when our students are motivated in the pursuit for knowledge and are prompted to understand a multifaceted problem and formulate a solution for it. Learning is a diverse process that does not defer easily to a subjective metric. The main questions that should be asked are whether the minds of our students are being challenged and are they vigorously engaged trying to work through their problems?
The diversity of student backgrounds, abilities and learning styles makes each person unique in the way he or she reacts to information. The intersection of diverse student backgrounds and active learning needs a comfortable, positive environment in which to take root. Dr. King continues by explaining, “Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.” From back then to today’s society, kids are failing because they lack those morals that they need to succeed.
After my introduction to both the design thinking and HA framework, I have spent hours of planning and wrapping my mind over how I’m going to make these two frameworks applicable to my class, and to my students. Through brainstorming and my execution of these two work process application and framework, I found a lot of struggles with project based, and student lead curriculum. However, the end results were rewarding to both myself, the teacher, and the students. I must say that this journey was hard, uncomfortable, yet very exciting and rewarding. When I first introduced the design thinking to my two study skills classes, they were very excited to hear that they were to creating a classroom and the ultimate learning experience.
While the behaviourist approach can be used to explain simple tasks, it becomes much more problematic in the learning process when tasks and objectives become more complex, such as with higher education. Even though behaviourism has had a major impact on the education in the western world, some critics highlighted the theory’s limitations by stating it was merely a scientific model that has been tested in a laboratory under specific test conditions, and how humans have a higher cognitive process than animals. They also found the theory to be dehumanising and unethical, not to mention that there was no consideration to the humans’ thought complexity compared to animals. A possible problem in relation to teachers utilising behavioural strategies in the classroom, such as praise or time-out, is the potential for haphazard, inconsistent and incorrect implementation (Angela M O’Donnell 2012, p
The teachers need to understand the instructional designs and how to apply these. In executing this effectively the learning process should expose the utilization of theoretical frameworks, student centered learning, collaboration, culturally fit (diversity), awareness of different learning styles and reflective practices (Tuitt, 2003, p.251- 253). With this we can be sure that every child can learn every child must learn with inclusive pedagogy through accessibility of
