Tribe does not focus on only one community because every person is part of a multitude of communities based off his/her beliefs.

Although many history classes have taught us that Native American societies were primitive, Charles Mann along with other historians argued that Native Americans did possessed a complexed history prior to Columbus, closer examination shows that they had large rich societies in, architecture, and agriculture. Mann believes the “Indian” population was larger, and their societies more accomplished, than was earlier believed. He estimates 40-60 million, but the count keeps rising. Another false belief was that the Indians lived on the land without touching it. In fact, they used "slash and burn" to clear and create grasslands for cultivation.

In the Nez Perce tribe women and men had different responsibilities with food. The women took care of finding berries, seeds, fruits, vegetables and other natural things in the wild. The men hunted and killed fish for their family. They particularly like hunting deer, buffalo, foxes, salmon, and sometimes trout. They did this by shooting arrows or spears while riding on horses, if they didn’t have a horse they would do it on foot.
There is only stone tools that we the people us to survive, stone spears to hunt, also you have to make you own bow and arrows to survive in the hunting grounds. Only the men are allowed to go hunting, the woman’s stay home, cook, clean and take care of the kids. The kids between 10 and 18 have to collect wild barriers from the forest. One of the major regions is the mountains; we use it to collect fresh water for the tribe. Another major region is the ocean, which we hunt down big fish.
Meat was the main thing they hunted for food. They hunted things including rabbits, shellfish, deer and other little animals. Other than meat they searched for things like beans and squash. The family in my example is a Native American family whose household consists of grandmother, grandfather, daughter and her five children ages 17, 15,12,8, and 5. Both the grandmother and mother work at the local casino. The mother is a supervisor there and often has to work long hours to cover shifts or for special events. The oldest child is female and is in special education with a diagnosis of FASD and has become an active addict using alcohol and prescription drugs. The fifteen year old is an avid anti-drug advocate and very active in sports and school.
