In The Pit and the Pendulum written story by Edgar Allen Poe, the main character, a prisoner sentenced to death, has been locked in a cell. As time goes on, he begins to go ‘crazy’ and think that there is something in his water, until later when he wakes up, a blade swinging above him, inching closer and closer to his chest. In the filmic version of the story, a character named Don Medina goes through a similar internal conflict when he is told that his sister is dead, but later establishes that she is actually alive, and whole event was staged.
