Parent/Child relationships is something often explored in antiquated poetry. It tugs at the readers heart strings and allows them to feel a certain way the poems ‘Do Not Go Gentle into That Goodnight’, ‘Once Upon A Time’ and ‘poem at 39’ are no exception to this. It is a poem that held a great amount of significance to Dylan , who wanted to see his father stand up to death in an array of resistance. Dylan Thomas’s poetry is often quite difficult to comprehend, because it is filled to the brim with images that are interconnected with the organisation of words and sentences, so it can be difficult to understand what the writer is trying to showcase. The poem is about getting old and shrivelling up and becoming of no use to the human race and close to death. Instead of giving in and going adroitly the poem pushes people and particularly the narrators father to protest and rage against the end of their life. The first stanza is a peremptory call, the four that follow it integrate and the final stanza beseeches and the whole constructs into a monumental,compelling message of defiance and would be solution.A parent child relationship is also strong as the narrator doesn’t want his father to die but to stay with him in this world and experience all of his achievements.He shows us the importance of parent child relationships and that it shouldn’t be taken for granted. As the reader, when reading it aloud and then quietly to myself I could note the difference in tone and syllables. The poet is observing the conclusion to the life of a loved one and cannot seem to indulge or rather permit it.Dylan Thomas, truly,in my opinion, has shown an impressive example of a villanelle one of the best the least
