Can point of view change how you develop a character? By using first person point of view, the authors of The Georges and the Jewels and Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse quite effectively develop each character. For example, if the reader did not know that the bit tasted bad and the straps were uncomfortable, he/she may assume that the bit was made for a custom fit for the horse and the mouthpiece tasted like strawberries. First, in The Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, a girl’s father has her ride and train horses even though she think the horses have feelings and don't like the gear and the training. Skip Hollandsworth’s “Toddlers in Tiaras” argues the negative effects of participating in beauty pageants for young girls. Hollandsworth supported his argument through the use of the following techniques: narratives, testimonies, logical reasoning, appeals to emotion, facts, and an objective tone that attempts to give him credibility. These techniques are used to help persuade his audience of the exploitation of young girls in beauty pageants and the negative effects that pageants will have on their lives. Hollandsworth begins his article with how a typical beauty pageant runs and describes the multiple steps Eden Wood, a pageant contestant, goes through in order to get ready for a competition (490).

My whole life I struggled to understand what made reading enjoyable to people. I struggled to focus on the ideas of books. It wasn't until about a year ago I was given a book to borrow from a friend. I saw this friend as a mentor in my life and she felt I needed to read this book. I put off reading the book as long as possible but when I finally started progressing through the book my opinion had been altered.

Many people assume her life is perfect and a dream when in reality her parents are on the verge of a divorce. Throughout both of the two stories that are going on in The Princess Bride, characters are constantly doing crazy things to be reunited or show their love for others in the book. During summer while other kids were outside having fun, i was indoors with my AC on reading different kind of books because of a soccer injury i had. If it wasn 't for that injury i don 't think i would of ever gotten a book on my own. It all started with an injury to a book that became the book that kept me going to find more books to read. The book is called " A Child Called It: One Child 's Courage to Survive" by David Pelzer. Before this i thought all books were boring but this one totally changed my mind.
I read all of the books with her name at the beginning of the title. Reading was a way for me to escape from reality. It’s like I would get lost in the books. I’d spend hours reading. At times I felt like I was the characters in the book.
The book “Princess” written by Jean Sasson tells the life of ‘Sultana’, (The name of the princess, Sultana is a substitute for her real name due to the dangers she could later face if traced) a Saudi princess bounded by a strict society that she says define women nothing more than a tool to fulfill their sexual desires and bearer of their children. “From an early age, the male child is taught that women are of little value: They exist only for his comfort and convenience” (chapter introduction, princess). This book depicts how even the royal woman are beaten, executed and enslaved by their fathers, sons and husbands. It paints a shady image of the Saudi society in our minds showing the different shadows of grays in a colorful pallet. For example the book tells about a Fillipino woman who had shifted to Saudi Arabia to work as a servant in one of the ‘reputed rich families’, later realizing that her duties also consisted of pleasing the employer and his two sons sexually.
