Q7. After the aftermath of the 1848 uprisings a new strong ruler stepped forward. France's newest Emperor was Louis-Napoleon. This was somewhat a familiar name to most if not all of the French people. Louis-Napoleon happened to be the nephew of France's long reigning man of destiny, Napoleon Bonaparte.
During the period of discrimination and the civil rights movement persistence was key. By resisting to all the discrimination the African Americans showed a sense of rebellion which helped the civil rights movement to advance. In “Letter From Birmingham Jail” by Martin Luther King Jr, Mlk defends his stand in the civil rights movement due to clergymen doubting his actions. In “Graduation” by Maya Angelou, Angelou shows differences between races and presents how her graduation was different due to the time period. “A Homemade Education” by Malcolm X shows how he expanded his knowledge while he was in jail by reading and using his time wisely.
Cady Stanton and Maya Angelou “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way” (John C. Maxwell). Cady Stanton who wrote Declaration of Sentiments and Maya Angelou who wrote On the Pulse of the Morning are two different people; one is fighting for rights people need, while the other one is alive and wants people to enjoy life. They talk about separate ideas, and they also discuss what people need versus how they need to enjoy life. Angelou and Stanton are different in their beliefs; Stanton fought for women's rights, and Angelou wanted people to know how beautiful one’s life can be. Doctor Maya Angelou and Cady Stanton used freedom in different ways; Angelou wanted everybody to enjoy life and the freedom of life.
Maya Angelou was an author, civil rights activist, and a poet. She was the first black female streetcar conductor in San Francisco, California, and was a part of the Harlem Writers Guild. Her 1969 autobiography called I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is the first best-seller from an African-American woman and her poems have earned her multiple awards. Angelou was a truly talented writer. Maya Angelou was born Marguerite Annie Johnson on April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Stanton and Angelou “We may encounter defeat, but we must not be defeated” said Maya Angelou. This quote explains that Cady Stanton and Maya Angelou were women that were determined to succeed. In 1840, Cady Stanton wrote the piece “Declaration of Sentiments” to empower women to stand up for their rights. In 1990 Maya Angelou wrote “ On the Pulse of Morning” to inspire people to live everyday to the fullest and not to waste any moments. Although these women bear some minor similarities, the differences in beliefs between Cady Stanton and Maya Angelou bear some similarities.
Tragic Hero in History “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people”,Maya Angelou. Two tragic heroes in history who fought to make the world a better place are Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. With passion and determination they enhanced the life of many people. Tragically there efforts were halted when their lives were cut short.
The speech I decided to analyze was Maya Angelou speaking about how love liberates. By being able to love and being loved means that you are lucky. The main thing that Maya Angelou is trying to get across is that love is liberating not binding. She tried to get her point across in many ways. The main ways was by telling stories.
Angelou uses chronological order to display the challenges which Maya had gone through in finding her identity, and how she overcomes the challenges she faces through storytelling. Big Bailey, the father of Bailey Jr. and Maya, leaves Bailey Jr., and Maya to Vivian for some days which makes Maya feels uncomfortable as her parents had abandoned them when they were younger. They were did not grow up with them, and therefore it made them socially uncomfortable. Maya and Bailey Jr. both grew up in a rural area so they took time to adapt in an urban area. Maya shield herself to the world, and “[Maya] had decided that St. Louis was a foreign country”
Once again, Maya Angelou manages to touch our hearts again with her poetic skills in Chapter 19 titled The Champion of the World in her autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. She recalls a time in her life where the African American community gathered at her grandmother's and uncle's store to hear a boxing match via radio. The boxing match was between the former champion Joe Louis and a white boxer. Maya Angelou takes the meaning of a simple boxing match into something more complex; she demonstrates the suffrage of her people fighting against oppression during that time period.
So I definitely found the main message or at least what I believe to be one of the main messages was the fact that we should all be aware of whats going on around us and we should decide in our minds what we want our “backyard” to look like, meaning the world around
Angelou’s contribution to the Civil Rights Movement and her achievements as an activist were remarkable. While these achievements seem to be enough to last a lifetime, the Civil Rights Movement was only the beginning for Angelou. Angelou worked as an outspoken Civil Rights activist during the movement. But even after the Civil Rights Movement had ended, she continued to be a voice of humanity, speaking out against anything that harmed the human spirit. Angelou moved on to influence American society as a whole, from the 1970’s to the day she died, May 28, 2014.
In regards to Maya Angelou’s life she said, “If we lose love and self respect for each other, this is how we finally die”("Maya Angelou Quotes" 2018). This was seen throughout her body of work. Maya was known for her eye catching work and the effort she put forth into it. She became known by writers and professionals, and was seen to be involved in the civil rights movement ( “Maya Angelou is born.” 2018).
Graduation- Rhetorical Devices Maya Angelou’s “Graduation” essay shares the epitome of racial pride in the 1940’s. Written from the point of view of Marguerite Johnson, a younger Maya Angelou, she describes the anxiety and preparation of her graduation from junior high into the proud Negro race. Angelou traces her maturation throughout the day by using her ever-changing use of juxtaposition, irony, and historical allusions.
What are your reasons when undertaking a mission? Annie Johnson wanted a more successful life for her family and herself. Farah Ahmedi and her mother wanted to live a better life in a new location. Ernesto wants to get a good education at his new English school.
In Maya Angelou’s “Graduation” she spoke about a fictional character named Marguerite Johnson and her eighth-grade graduation. Marguerite was always kinda of lost and selfish at times, and never look at how others seen things. But as the story goes on Marguerite starts to find herself and understand others. “Graduation” isn’t just about how Marguerite pass on to the next grade but how she has grown from a lost girl to a young intelligence woman. In this story the reader is going to follower her on this surprising journey.
