On April 4th of 1928 Maya Angelou was born Marguerite Johnson in St. Louis, Missouri. She was given the name “Maya” by her brother, Bailey. Both Maya and Bailey were sent to live with their grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas after her parents divorced. When Maya went to visit her mother at the age of eight she was raped by her mother’s boyfriend.
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States and Commander in Chief during the Civil War. He was a member of the Free Soil Party and later became a Republican. Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing the slaves in the Confederate States after the Battle of Antietam, and ultimately led the North to victory in the Civil War. What most do not know, however, is that he got to that point after a long road of lying and deception. Abraham Lincoln constantly altered his views on slavery and other issues during the 1800s purely based on his audience.

Dix was born in Hampden, Maine. She grew up in Worcester Massachusetts and was the oldest of three. Her parents Joseph Dix and Mary Bigelow had deep ancestral roots in Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Maya Angelou was an African American Civil Rights activist, Author, & poet who issued 7 autobiographies 3 essay books and various poetry books, and had done a number of plays. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 4, 1928 and recently died on May 28, 2014. Some time during World War 2 Maya won a Scholarship to study acting and dance at the California Labor School, in San Francisco, California. At the time Maya became the first African American female cable car conductor(A job she had for a short amount of time).
Throughout American history, there have been individuals who changed the United States for the better and made their names represent more than an average human. Abraham Lincoln is one of these extraordinary people. Lincoln, the sixteenth United States President, was significant to the American Civil War, an event that reshaped American society greatly. Lincoln was essential to the war because his election contributed to starting the war, he inspired the Union to not give up and resume fighting in the war, and he passed the Emancipation Proclamation, a pivotal action in the war. These actions of his made him a valuable person.

As a result of the many hardships that she suffered while growing up as a poor black woman in the south she has used her own experiences as the subject matter of her written work. In doing this she effectively shows how she was able to overcome her personal obstacles. Her autobiography “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (1970) tells the story of her life and how she overcame and moved forward triumphantly in spite of her circumstances.
Most of all presidents have done good for our country. They took on the role of being a leader, and making major decisions to help the United States of America grow. Abraham Lincoln was one of those presidents. He was able to end the American civil war, and stop slavery for good. Abhraham Lincoln is the president whom impacted America the most and was the strongest.
Angelou’s contribution to the Civil Rights Movement and her achievements as an activist were remarkable. While these achievements seem to be enough to last a lifetime, the Civil Rights Movement was only the beginning for Angelou. Angelou worked as an outspoken Civil Rights activist during the movement. But even after the Civil Rights Movement had ended, she continued to be a voice of humanity, speaking out against anything that harmed the human spirit. Angelou moved on to influence American society as a whole, from the 1970’s to the day she died, May 28, 2014.
A hero is someone who overcome obstacles and inspires others. Often people think of heroes as sports stars or world leaders, but Maya Angelou is a hero. In Maya’s book, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, Maya is the main character. In fact, this is an autobiography of her life.
The Civil war was a dispute that would 've torn the country in half if it were 'nt for Abraham. Abraham also would hire people of the opposing political party into his cabinet, he would do this so he could see the opposing argument, this was a key factor in what made him such a strong leader.
