Rationale
After analysing and understanding racial discrimination and social injustice in class I have chosen to create a magazine article reflecting on the lyrics of the song ‘Chocolate Rain’. I was fascinated by Tay Zonday’s lyrics for the song. I wanted to explore how the lyrics had effected people in black and white communities. In the magazine article, I express the literal meanings of the lyrics and the racial background related to it. Since the release of Tay Zonday’s song ‘Chocolate Rain’ in 2007, he has become famous for his expression of racism and social injustice through his song. I show how and why the song targets the audience from multicultural societies.
The intended purpose of my response would be to create awareness towards racial and social inequality and how it could be corrected. I interpret the lyrics in context to the song I have chosen to elaborate on. I also define the main aspect of this song which is to make the wider society aware of inequalities that the song exposes and what can be done to eliminate these inequalities. Tay Zonday’s goal was to use his song ‘Chocolate Rain’ to act as a euphemism for racism which plainly implies that his song was indirectly targeted towards multicultural societies. I also interview several African American people to recognize their views towards the Racism and injustice.
