Analysis: Why College Athletes Should Be Paid

Have you ever worked so hard for something and not get credit? Maybe your didn’t get paid… or your name wasn’t posted with your work. This is exactly what is happening to our college athletes. They work so hard yet they don’t earn anything from it besides a picture in the newspaper or feeling good after they win. What about outside of the sports? They have other necessities that basketball, football, and baseball just don’t pay for. College athletes should be paid because without being paid it stops them from jobs, and it damages their living conditions.

When people need money they look towards careers and jobs but in order to get money they need to maintain time for these things. In college student athletes usually maintain an over exhausting schedule. Most students come to school on about $25,000 scholarship. Although they get that for four years in college it’s $100,000, that doesn’t cover everything that a person in college needs. The problem with that is that money is usually going to school supplies that are highly expensive. For example in the paragraph it states, a “$25,000 scholarship may seem like a lot of money, but it really only covers the basics. It covers thousands of dollars in mysterious, unknown university fees, tuition, housing, a meal-plan and multiple hundred-dollar textbooks.” This piece of evidence reveals that although a $25,000 scholarship does help college athletes it is only enough to get by on the simple things and doesn’t leave any remaining money for things in their free time. Critics may argue that these athletes get more than enough with the amount of money their scholarships cost, but if you look at the reasonings they also need money for things other than school like personal needs such as
