In “Night” by Elie Wiesel, Hitler was not only trying to exterminate the Jews, but he was also trying to make them feel like they were less of a person than the people around them. He felt that the Jews were a bother to the Germans more than anything. He tortured them to the point that they wanted to pick on the person next to them so that person would look worse than themselves. Hitler’s job was to make the humans feel like they were nothing but a piece of dirt along the path that he would walk on to success. Hitler knows exactly how he will make the Jews feel like they are not humans. He begins by taking them away from their homes to make them feel like they aren’t valuable to live in their homes.(Page 16) As they ride to their first concentration camp, a German officer tells them that they must give up their most beloved belongings. He also takes away their gold, silver, watches, and anything else they had brought along. (Page 24 & 29) The prisoners listened to everything the guards said to them. They followed the rules like it was supposed to be. They threw clothing at them as they were running. They no longer have a name to be called by, just numbers. Hitler and the rest of the Germans are taking away anything the Jews have. They are making them feel like they aren’t as important as other people. (Page 42) The Jews were given a medical check-up to make sure they weren’t too weak to continue, and if they were, they were killed. The dentist was looking for gold teeth so he could keep them for himself. He would tear out your tooth if you had a gold cap on it. They didn’t care about how much pain they had put the Jews through, they only cared about how much they would benefit from the valuable items they were taking away from them. (Page
