In Julius Caesar, both Antony and Brutus delivered languishing speeches using rhetorical devices to attract the audience and persuade the crowd that their opinions were correct and logical. Marcus Brutus used more of a scare tactic and threatened the people of Rome to challenge him. Mark Antony used more of a sentimental and emotional technique to appeal to the vulnerable audience. He speaks to the crowd, rather than above it as Brutus does in his lofty speech of honor. Mark Antony presented the more rhetorically effective speech using the vulnerability of the Roman citizen’s feelings and the techniques of pathos, plain folk, bandwagon and reverse psychology.
The Crucible There is no greater fall, than a fall off a pedestal. In the play, “The Crucible’ by Arthur Miller, the protagonist John Proctor endures many struggles and as a consequence had many mistakes. Unluckily for John he was placed on a pedestal, he was viewed in the town as a religious figure. Although, through his closeted flaws he fell from his grace, that downfall eventually led to his execution.

Brutus used ethos ineffectively in his funeral speech to establish his credibility amongst the Plebeians and demonstrate that he had the right to speak. He and the other conspirators had just murdered Caesar, so they had to come out to justify their actions. Brutus came out to speak to the Plebeians, and he used ethos to make himself reliable and worthy of speaking to his audience. Brutus said, “Believe me for mine honor, and have respect to mine honor that you may believe”(III.ii.15-17). “Mine honor” referred to the fact that Brutus was a well-regarded and honorable Senator, and also a descendent of people who paved the way for the republic.

Rhetorical Analysis 2 Caesar's funeral was meant to serve as a memorial to his honor and accomplishments. But both Brutus and Marc Antony seized the opportunity to try to lure the crowd into believing their version of the story, and follow them in the next chapter of Rome. Brutus was the first to speak with blood still on his hands, and he gave his speech in prose using ethos as his main weapon. Marc Antonty spoke next, using blank verse.
Brutus’s speech focused on ethos and pathos, As he is giving his speech brutus says “that my love for caesar was no less than his” implying that he is saddened by caesar's death. He continues on immediately afterwards saying “Not that I loved caesar less, it's that I love rome more!” Using ethics, brutus then says “Had you rather caesar live and die all slaves, than that caesar dead and live all three men?” using ethics. Later brutus says that “there is tears for his love: joy, for his fortune: honor, for his valor: and death for his ambition.” using both ethos and pathos.
In Brutus’s speech he used ethos and logos to try and control the people of Rome. He was stoic and blinded of what Antony was capable of. He wanted to change their minds about the conspiracy and the murder of Caesar. Brutus says “Had you rather Caesar were living, and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live all free men” (III, i, 23-24).
n the two speeches that Brutus and Mark Antony wrote in Julius Caesar they both had different understandings on Julius Caesar's death. Brutus seemed to think that Julius Caesar's death was ok and no need to find the murderer, but Mark Antony wanted to find his murderer because he was close to Julius Caesar. All of this and Brutus still saw Julius Caesar as a honorable man, but his death isn't as important as Rome is. In Brutus' speech he shows his devotion is given first to Rome then to his close friends.
Rhetoric in the Speeches of Brutus and Antony The death of Caesar is a controversial topic and was even more controversial at the time of his funeral when when senators were trying to benefit from his death by getting the Roman citizens on their side.
