When I hear Simons story Erik Erikson’s Theory comes to my mind. The stage that Simon is in is called the Industry vs inferiority which is a part of middle childhood. This stage refers to children acquiring new skills, enhanced sense of mastery and self-efficiency. It is important that the child’s family, peer and community is supportive to help the child grow a sense of competence. Families play a critical role in supporting that development. Since Simon is dealing with a non-stable home life, it isn’t very surprising that he is acting out at school. The chaotic living situation must have him feeling fearful and full of anxiety.
